16w ago - Contrary to the previous rumor, today a Tiny Brains PS4 developer stated that the PlayStation 4 system will be launching in November, 2013.
Below are the details, to quote: If you’ve never heard of Tiny Brains before, it’s an upcoming title from Spearhead Games (made from ex-EA, Ubisoft, and Eidos devs) for the Xbox Live Arcade, PC, and PlayStation 4.
In a press release issued today showing off that Tiny Brains will be playable at PAX Prime, they also revealed that it would be released as “a PlayStation 4 launch title in November.” They later continued by saying, “However, PAX Prime attendees won’t have to wait until November to get their hands on PS4 controllers and play Tiny Brains: they can try a demo at the show in booth 6305.”
Before you take this as confirmation that the PlayStation 4 will launch in November (I’m still hoping for a shocking October launch), this could be them just taking previous launch history and guessing when the PlayStation 4 is releasing. Or maybe they know something we don’t and it’s true. Either way, we’ll just have to wait and see if anything happens at gamescom starting on Monday.
39w ago - Today Gamasutra has revealed several Sony PlayStation 4 / PS4 development Tools and Engines for those interested in developing on the next-generation video game console with details below.
To quote: "It looks as if the NDAs for several tool-makers supporting Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4 were lifted today, as our inboxes have been flooded this morning with announcements.
Below are the tools and engines that should be available now for those of you developing on the PlayStation 4. We'll update this story should any other announcements come our way.
Update: Added NVIDIA's PhysX and APEX, and NaturalMotion's Morpheme 4.
Animation tool FaceFX is billed as "an advanced facial animation solution unique in its ability to liberate artists from the complexities of creating realistic dialogue and emotive characters." Recent titles that used the tech include Far Cry 3, Halo 4 and Dishonored. More information is available here (facefx.com).
Germany's xaitment is supporting the PS4 with xaitControl, its AI software package for game logic and character behavioral modeling.
