Sony PlayStation Store Reveals New PS4 Digital DRM Policy Details

500°
53w ago - Now that you can pre-order PlayStation 4 titles such as [Register or Login to view links] and [Register or Login to view links] on Sony's PSN Store, they have adapted a new PS4 digital DRM (Digital Rights Management) policy as detailed below.

To quote: "With the PlayStation Store, you can download your games to two systems. However, playing those games is a different story. When you're on your primary system, the one you use all the time, you can play as you normally would.

But to play on another system, the owner of the game must be signed into his or her PSN account. So for instance if I go to a friend's house and want to play Knack, I need to stay signed into my PSN account in order for us to continue playing. If I am on my PS4, I can play it without signing in.

This is different from the current digital DRM practice with the PS3 where you can download on up to two systems, but don't need to be signed in with the purchasing account to play said game.

The PlayStation 4 will be available in the US on November 15th and Europe on November 29th."

Sony Employees Respond to PlayStation 4 DRM & PS4 Used Games

73w ago - Following up on their previous confirmation that the PlayStation 4 / PS4 console won't block used games, some top Sony employees have also responded to the [Register or Login to view links] movement (hashtags #PS4NoDRM and #PS4USEDGAMES) to accept used video games and remove DRM (digital rights management) protection from them.

The movement started (via neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=568033) with the intended goal being to convince Sony not to take the same route as Microsoft with the PS4. They also want people to tell Sony that the PlayStation 4 should be region free and have free online play.

Below are some excerpts from some high-ranking Sony staffers revealing that the company is listening to consumers and gamers alike, as follows:

John Koller, the head of Sony Hardware Marketing commented (twitter.com/jpkoller): This is why I love PlayStation fans- the passion bucket overflows #playstation

While Nick Accordino, an SCEA producer, added (twitter.com/Nikoro): Humbled by the outpouring of passionate PlayStation fans and their willingness to talk to us directly. Please know that we hear you. <3
