Sony Announces Instant Play Streaming Video for PS3 is Here!

108w ago - Sony's Greg Belloni has announced today that Instant Play streaming video for the PS3 entertainment system is officially here!

To quote: The wait is over - you can now immediately watch the movies you rent from the PlayStation Video Store on your PlayStation 3!

It's all pretty simple, really - just get the popcorn ready, find the flick you've been dying to see and make the rental like you have for other titles.

Now, however, there's no waiting - just select the option to "Stream" after the download screen and you're on your way. After the service makes sure your internet connection has enough bandwidth the feature will start immediately.

Remember though, once you start the stream, you have 24 hours to watch the movie. Enjoy!

Crackle Video Streaming Service Heads to PlayStation 3 for Free

179w ago - Today it was announced that Sony's TV and movie video streaming service Crackle is heading to the PlayStation 3 console for free.

PS3 owners will find Crackle via the built-in Web browser, and the homepage will have a direct link available.

To quote from GamesRadar.com (linked above): Crackle, an ad-supported video streaming service that just so happens to be owned by Sony Pictures, announced a sweeping expansion today.

It's now available on numerous devices including Sony Blu-ray players and TVs, as well as Roku boxes and, of course, the PS3.

Crackle works like Hulu, but it has a stronger focus on movies, with hundreds of films available, as well as original programming.

Among the studios supporting Crackle are Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Screen Gems, and Sony Pictures Classics. Incidentally, those are all Sony Pictures studios. The company says it adds 20 new titles per month.
 

Video: NHL Lights the Lamp - Streaming on PlayStation 3 Today

199w ago - PlayStation Store Senior Manager Grace Chen has announced that NHL lights the lamp, and is streaming on Sony's PlayStation 3 entertainment system beginning today through a new NHL GameCenter application.

To quote: I'm excited to announce that the NHL is streaming its way onto the PS3!

Beginning today, all PS3 users in the United States and Canada can download the new NHL GameCenter application, an exclusive offer for PS3 users making it the first and only gaming console to stream live hockey games in HD.

[Register or Login to view links] subscribers who enjoy free access to PlayStation Network and its variety of online content, can now stream live out-of-market regular season and select playoff game broadcasts in HD by downloading the NHL GameCenter application on the PS3 system.
