138w ago - Today SKFU reports that based on his recent findings Sony may actually want PS3 YLOD consoles, and in related news the TeamICE 'PSP Emulator' is bricking PS3 consoles of those who use it.
To quote from SKFU: "Due my reserach for a CFW I noticed an interesting string in a .RCO file (system_plugin.rco).
The system has become hot. Please turn off the system and wait a while before turning it on again.
So my thought is: Could the PS3 have prevented most of the YLOD cases, as there should be a function to shutdown the PS3 when it is too hot? Seems so, but well - someone may want to make profit."
According to PSGroove, Forum user TeamICE has released an alleged 'PSP Emulator' that is reported to be bricking PlayStation 3 consoles.
To quote: "They are showing screenshots and even including a readme which adds to the appearance of legitimacy. Unfortunately, this is not a psp emulator, when ran it actually will brick your PS3 console.
If you see someone posting this teamICE psp emu, then please ignore it and report the user.

139w ago - Today garyopa at PSX-Scene has reported that Russian hacker GamerSuper has began a project for playing PSP games on Sony's PS3 entertainment system and shared a PoC video!
Below is the proof-of-concept video, and for those curious GamerSuper's own Web site is located HERE.
To quote from the video's caption: "Launching PSP game on PS3 - World's First Test
Here's a first video of launching PSP game on the PS3. It wasn't easy at all, I worked about a week without any breaks, a SDK which has recently leaked very helped me. I don't know why there was no in-game sound, seems I made some mistake when building a game last time.
There were some problems in controls (I mean some buttons were messed up, e.g. START became , select didn't work at all), but I'm gonna fix it."
140w ago - Today dimmudroid has announced news of what is currently being developed as Project PS3P on PSX-Scene, which aims to offer PSP game emulation on Sony's PS3 entertainment system!
To quote: "I'd like to announce a project i've been working on, PS3P. Basically it's the ability to load PSP games on PS3.
As you may know, the PS3 can play PSP Minis, which are installed just like any other package. And most PSP games have nearly identical structures and files as PS3 games.
Thus far I've been able to achieve a few steps in the right direction, but I'm not ready to share my work just yet. I've been working on this in my free time (aka outside of work and family) and it will be done when it's done.
If you'd like to know more, or keep on the up and up, feel free to find me on http://twitter.com/dimmudroid
I may need a few alpha testers soon, I'll post requirements and such later today."
176w ago - We recently got a chance to explore the new PS3 Debug 3.15 firmware, and discovered that contrary to PS3 Firmware 3.10 the 'PSPemu' PSP emulator folder in /dev_flash of version 3.15 is no longer hidden.
The 3.15 PSPemu folder filelist is below, and is a bit interesting.. In the root of the folder contains the emulator, psp_emulator.self, the translator psp_translator.self, a folder labeled release, and of course a folder labled flash0.
For anyone familiar with the PSP, flash0 is of course the flash. It contains basic folders, with fonts, logos, and user PRX's.
The release folder contains different SPRX's requried for the emulator, from system, to umd and even network files.
To of course, quell any giant "we can make a CFW for the PSP work on the PS3" - it's not going to happen any time soon, things will still be signed from PSN, ala a PKG, which we can not edit - so sadly any luck with trying to inject our own code will be useless for now.
181w ago - Update: The resident PS3 Devs have confirmed this rumor, as evidenced in THIS post by DrEmmettBrown.
According to French site PS3Gen.fr (linked above), Sony is working on a secret project... specifically, an emulator that will allow PSP games to be played on the PS3 system.
This is just a rumor for the time being, however, according to their source retail PlayStation Portable UMD titles, those available on the PlayStation Store and even new PSP Minis may see the light of day on the PlayStation 3 in the future.
To quote, roughly translated: "Playing with PSP games on the PS3 seems a project that Sony is preparing in secret. Here's the surprising news that we have gleaned and could make love dematerialization games.
The "ONLY COMPATIBLE with the PSP"... may disappear.
This should be made possible through an emulator in the PSP and PS3 through the dematerialization of games that are now sold on the PlayStation Store and is a UMD in stores. This would also be interesting for all games in the category Minis.
The minis soon on PS3 without additional programming from the devs. This...
