53w ago - Following up on his previous release, this weekend PlayStation 3 developer Rogero has updated his PS3 CEX 4.30 Custom Firmware (CFW) to version 2.03 which includes XMB Install Package Files and no more Downgrader.PUP needed.
76w ago - Following up on the previous article, today master0wn3r at NGU (linked above) has made an updated guide on how to add Install Package Files on PS3 4.11 OFW essentially making it into a modified PlayStation 3 Shop / Kiosk Firmware.
Below is the guide, to quote: This firmware will not install / run PS3 homebrew packages! Everything you install on your console is on your own risk, this firmware has been tested and confirmed working, if you brick your console its 110% your own fault!
Hello all, I wanna show you all how to get install package files on your OFW 4.11. It still has some bugs but I am working on it
Please people, if you get errors don't blame me! be happy this is for OFW 4.11 and you don't have to downgrade first, this is a little step forward in the PS3 jailbreak / unlock for 4.11.
1. USB Stick
2. The Modded Firmware (below)
3. A PS3
4. Know how to get in Recovery mode
Complete Patch Blocker inside firmware, Blocks all game updates and any application that has a update server besides System Firmware Updater.
1. Custom Coldboot
2. Kiosk/Shop XMB restrictions have been removed so PlayStation Home/PlayStation Store work fine.
3. Modified to allow installation of retail signed packages
Notes: DO NOT install this unless you have an E3 flasher or Progskeet type device to downgrade your PS3 to 3.55. Unfortunately 3.55 signed PS3 homebrew does not install/run. Also be aware it doesn't load any PlayStation 3 game backups so you will need to have the game disc to play them.
98w ago - Below is a video demonstrating my PS3 4.00 Dev_Flash modification, which simply allows users to install Retail signed package (PKG) files from the PlayStation 3 XMB.
Note: This modification does not allow the installation / usage of unsigned content / PS3 homebrew etc. This is purely a convenience hack and is aimed for use by those who have hardware flashers which allow dual boot.
After technodon's work creating a modified kiosk dev_flash which lets you install retail signed package files. The restrictions of having to use kiosk firmware inspired me to find a way to add "Install Package Files" for retail firmware.
This is hack does the following things:
adds "★ Install Package Files" and "★ /app_home/PS3_GAME/" to "GAME" on the XMB (allowing the user to install retail package files anytime they want)
adds other debug functions which are small but still there
does not give access to "★ Debug Setting" (reasons for this are explained below)
This installation procedure is the similar to technodon's original dev_flash hdd swap procedure
