Sony Announces BBC Sports PS3 App Beta is Now in High Definition

126w ago - Following up on our previous update, today PlayStation Access Community Manager MusterBuster has announced that the BBC Sports App Beta is now in high definition!

Below are the details, to quote: Good news sport lovers, a new version of the BBC Sports App Beta is now available and it's equipped with new features, more coverage and many, many more pixels.

The new version of the beta supports high definition footage across the live events featured in the app and, since the PlayStation community will be amongst the first in the country to try it out, we're really keen to get your feedback on how it performs. Once you've given it a go, leave us a comment down below to let us know what you think.

In addition to HD goodness, the [Register or Login to view links] is adding more and more content to the app to cover off this Summer's big sporting event in London.

Be sure to pay it a visit for oodles of live coverage, highlights reels and even a medals table so that you can track each country's success.

Sony's Filmy Application for High-Definition Videos Hits PSN

202w ago - PlayStation Network Director of Marketing Brandon Stander has announced today that Sony's Filmy application for high-definition videos is hitting PSN.

To quote: PlayStation Network users will be excited to hear that we have just introduced a new movie viewing application from Sony Corporation exclusively on PSN.

The new application, called Filmy, allows easy organization and viewing of AVCHD video recorded with Sony cameras on PlayStation 3.

With Filmy, you can enjoy smooth operability and easy video playback of your AVCHD videos. Simply connect an AVCHD-recordable camera to your PS3 with the USB cable, and you can view those high-definition AVCHD videos right on your TV.

The Filmy application is available in the media category within the PlayStation Store as a free trial version that allows you to operate full features for 15 minutes and also as a paid version that unlocks all content functionality for $5 USD. Once downloaded, Filmy will install under the Video icon of your XMB.

The Filmy application is yet another innovative offering on PSN as we continue to expand your entertainment options, including games, movies, TV shows, sports and content that just can't be found anywhere else.

Final Fantasy XIII for PS3: Finally Forcing High-Definition?

296w ago - Gaming in high definition provides the best possible picture and sound quality, and allows us to play the games they were meant to be played.

The Final Fantasy series has had a long history of amazing prerendered cutscenes and equally as beautiful real time graphics.

With the wait until FFXIII launches we can't help but think how good these graphics can get. The folks over at [Register or Login to view links] ran a series of comparison shots of the Japanese demo on high end HD TV's and the good old family analogue.

The models used to compare were:

•14 inch Sony WEGA (2000)
•50 inch Pioneer plasma (2006)

With about $3,600 and six years separating them it wasn't going to be hard to guess what the results would be. What was surprising however was how bad the analogue picture looked even without the comparison.

With square promising that they were working hard on making it so that text was readable on SD TV's we may have another case of unreadable text that was found in Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts and Capcoms Dead Rising.

The economy being in the state that it is, those who haven't yet purchased a HD TV may just have to settle on these blurry graphics for just a while longer... although...
