Library of Congress Rejects Exemption, Rules JailBreaking PS3 Illegal

1000°
90w ago - As of October 26, 2012 the Library of Congress has rejected a proposed exemption that would allow for the JailBreaking of video game consoles including the PlayStation 3, ruling that PS3 JailBreaking is to be considered illegal under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ([Register or Login to view links]).

Because the Register determined that the evidentiary record failed to support a finding that the inability to circumvent access controls on video game consoles has, or over the course of the next three years likely would have, a substantial adverse impact on the ability to make noninfringing uses, the Register declined to recommend the proposed class.

From his blog: RSXGL Working and Usable

Hi everyone!

When the PS3 homebrew scene started, a lot of people were complaining that it wasn’t possible to write 3D games for the PS3 because of its lack of OpenGL library.

Almost a year ago, Alex Betts thought he would tackle this problem and he started working on RSXGL... an implementation of the OpenGL 3.1 specification written from scratch targeting the PS3′s RSX.

Anyone in their right mind would say that it’s impossible, that it’s too much work, but Alex spent the last year working on it, alone, until it became usable. You can read some news about it here.

For some reason though, no one used it to build their own apps. Maybe the status of the project...

To quote: andbey0nd has released (pastie.org/4243807) another tool to us this morning. c2d is a Cex 2 Dex Flash Patcher. Currently it only works with 16mb NOR. Slowly but surely the scene seems to be coming back to life. 1 hack at time... Thanks andbey0nd and keep up the awesome work!

[andbey0nd] works for 16MB flash dumps (NOR) only
[andbey0nd] also if for some reason a WRONG EID key is provided - the program will abort and will not generate invalid DEX flash.. so no chance for bricking
[andbey0nd] if an output DEX flash file is created - it means that it is valid

c2d.exe (win32 app)

NoRSX for PS3 Updated to v0.1.5, Now a Real PSL1GHT Library

300°
107w ago - Following up on his previous revisions, today PlayStation 3 homebrew developer deroad has updated NoRSX to version 0.1.5 which he states is now a real PSL1GHT library.

To quote from his blog: Finally I setup my lib to be built as a real lib. In fact it will build now a libNoRSX.a

This lib will be installed inside the PORTLIBS directory. It uses also a new header #include (it will include always all the functions)

I noticed also that all the homebrews built with this lib will be also less heavier then the old one! To install it, just run make. It will build also the example. This has been tested with the latest PSL1GHT version.

To include this lib, just add into the Makefile the -lNoRSX flag (if you have problems, give a look into the NoRSX Example folder).

THIS LIB IS JUST FOR PSL1GHT V2

This doesn't work on v1. but it can be ported easily.
