11h ago - Following up on PS3 Firmware 4.41, today Sony has released PS3 System Software update 4.45 followed by reports of mass-bricking (with PSN temporarily closed via Error 8002A308) so currently it is advised NOT to install it.

Beware as it is causing a lot of consoles (mine included) to brick! There seems to be a glitch (pictured below) with a lot of users updating to that firmware and getting freezes after restarting. For those curious, the new update is supposed to allow users to 'opt-out' of the pop-up messages that you earned a trophy while playing a game.

Some reports indicate that this primarily affects those with 500+ GB hard drives, however, it is advised not to update to 4.45 until Sony remedies the issue. Currently they have rolled back to Firmware 4.41 meaning when you boot up your PS3 you will no longer be prompted to download the 4.45 update.

11h ago - At this year's E3 Expo a company called Exeo Entertainment announced news of what they call the Extreme Gamer XG 10 Disc Changer for streaming video games on PS3, XBox 360 and the Nintendo Wii consoles.

Below are some additional details, to quote: "Physical media might lend itself well to the used games market (well, usually), but it does have a distinct disadvantage over digital purchases: you still have to get up and change that disc.

It's a minor annoyance, but apparently enough of one to spark the creation of the Exeo Entertainment Extreme Gamer XG 10, an Xbox 360 / PlayStation 3 compatible game jukebox with room for ten retail titles. Unlike other Xbox 360 disc changers, however, this one won't void your warranty.

According to Exeo Entertainment, the Extreme Gamer pipes disc data to the console through USB or ethernet ports. The operation sounds a little fishy, but Exeo Entertainment assured us the device is on the up and up - console makers allow it to function because the data is processed on the console itself.

It's a neat trick, but it does seem a little late, considering the stars of this year's E3. The company told us it's aware of this, and is already planning to build a next-gen...
