Video: The Unfinished Swan: Art and Design Developer Diary

113w ago - Giant Sparrow Game Designer Ben Esposito has shared a video today spotlighting the art and design as part of their The Unfinished Swan developer diary.

To quote: Like a lot of folks, I first saw the tech demo for The Unfinished Swan when it made the rounds online in 2008. The idea stuck in the back of my head but it wasn't until later when Giant Sparrow put up a job posting that I decided: I had to make that game.

I had just graduated from college without much professional experience, so I did what I do best and made a game for them. You can check it out [Register or Login to view links] if you'd like. The video cuts off because the end of the game says "Call me" and has my phone number on it.

It got the attention of the Giant Sparrow team, and I ended up flying out to Los Angeles to work on the game. I was elated and a little shocked, but I came to learn that at Giant Sparrow, the player experience always comes first - and my little game was designed to create a very specific experience.

Now, in October 2012, The Unfinished Swan is out in the wild (well, to PlayStation Plus members) and we're proud that we were able to make a truly experiential game.




 

Video: Sony Details Starhawk's Final Days of PS3 Development

135w ago - Sony Senior Producer Harvard Bonin has detailed Starhawk's final days of PS3 development in a video chronicle below.

To quote: Warheads! Last Tuesday, May 8th, [Register or Login to view links] and Santa Monica Studio released Starhawk into the wild.

Getting here was a real pain at times, but it sure as hell has been a fun ride! If you'd like to peek behind the curtains look at the final days of Starhawk's development, check out this video.

We shot it a few weeks before release and it'll give you a nice glimpse into the inner workings of a game developer in crunch mode.

Video: Resistance 3 PS3 Dev Diary: Chimera Munitions

To quote: It's hard to believe that Resistance 3 is coming out next week! It's been an amazing journey for those of us at Insomniac Games, we've spent the last three years ensuring this is our most polished, focused, and consistent entry in the Resistance franchise.

We're very excited to share it with you. As we get close to release, it's time to show you our very last Dev Diary - this one focused on the high-tech weapons created or influenced by the Chimeran invaders.

As you may know by now, the Resistance 3 Multiplayer Beta is winding down on September 4th, but we wanted to get one last blast of testing on our servers, so we've made the beta available to all on the PlayStation Store. We also wanted to acknowledge that while the R3 beta wasn't always smooth sailing, we totally appreciated those of you who helped us test the game and stuck with us through the rough patches.





We've announced a Beta Player Appreciation program - if you download and play a few rounds of the Resistance 3 Beta before it ends on September 4th, you'll receive a couple of cool rewards for the final game....
 

Video: Solar PS3 Homebrew 3D Screensaver by Condorstrike out

174w ago - Hi guys, Condorstrike is back in action and now released Solar. A beautiful PS3 3D screensaver for PlayStation 3 homebrew apps with effects, sound and work in progress FTP. Main reason I made this is to have something nice looking and to prevent burned-screens.

This version spawns Rogero's manager, he will update the manager later to Spawn Solar, but I intend to make one for any other app eg: showtime or whatever as long as they have a proper SELF and coded to spawn with a timer to Solar.

Usage:

  • SELECT pauses the music
  • START resumes it. lol
  • L3 respawns Solar
  • And all the other buttons will launch the app it's attached to, in this case Rogero Manager.

PSL1GHT V1 and V2 Merged, PS3Toolchain Updated for PS3 Devs

192w ago - Following up on the previous update, today PS3 hacker ooPo has announced via Twitter the merger of PSL1GHT V1 and V2 alongside news of an updated PS3Toolchain to support it.

To quote: PSL1GHT is a lightweight PlayStation 3 homebrew SDK that uses the open-source PlayStation 3 toolchains to compile user applications that will run from the XMB menu (GameOS homebrew).
