31w ago - Giant Sparrow Game Designer Ben Esposito has shared a video today spotlighting the art and design as part of their The Unfinished Swan developer diary.
To quote: Like a lot of folks, I first saw the tech demo for The Unfinished Swan when it made the rounds online in 2008. The idea stuck in the back of my head but it wasn't until later when Giant Sparrow put up a job posting that I decided: I had to make that game.
I had just graduated from college without much professional experience, so I did what I do best and made a game for them. You can check it out here if you'd like. The video cuts off because the end of the game says "Call me" and has my phone number on it.
It got the attention of the Giant Sparrow team, and I ended up flying out to Los Angeles to work on the game. I was elated and a little shocked, but I came to learn that at Giant Sparrow, the player experience always comes first - and my little game was designed to create a very specific experience.
Now, in October 2012, The Unfinished Swan is out in the wild (well, to PlayStation Plus members) and we're proud that we were able to make a truly experiential game.
84w ago - This is just a quick PSA that we have now completed work integrating the PS3 News Quick Style Chooser into our Forums, Portal and 17 Subdomains hosted here which allows you to change the colors based on your preferences while browsing the site each day.
It can be found in the bottom left corner of each page here, and we will continue adding Styles to it frequently.
If anyone wishes to take a screenshot like HeyManHRU did HERE and fill in the colors you'd like to see we will do our best to add a Style under your UserName to pick from as time permits!
Finally, we are still offering $100 US for a new Site Logo... so far we have had a lot of GREAT design ideas in the ongoing thread with the criteria outlined below:
The logo should look decent with a transparent background, or able to be made that way upon being selected (most are).
The logo design should be unique so that when seen the first thing that comes to a viewer's mind is our site, not "Sony" or "PlayStation 3" so try to avoid using pics of the PS3 itself or...
98w ago - Although no PS3 price drop is planned for the event, today IndianVideogamer.com reports that Sony will be announcing a new PlayStation 3 chassis design at Gamescom which runs from August 17th to the 20th, 2011.
This is not to be confused with the recent PS3 model CECH-3001A/B that weighs in at 2.6kg down from 3.0kg and cuts power consumption from 230W to 200W.
While the upcoming PS3's functionality is said not to change, during a recent interview PlayStation India Country Manager Atindriya Bose stated that the new PS3 chassis design will feature a slightly different internal design.
To quote: "Any chance of a price drop on the PS3 soon?
As of now, no.
(laughs) Well, if there was a price drop coming at Gamescom, I'd know. There is, however, a new PS3 chassis being discussed. A slightly different design, but from what I can tell, not much difference in functionality."
136w ago - Today Dead Nation Composer and Sound Designer Ari Pulkkinen has shared a Sound of the Dead: Audio Design Dead Nation interview and sample track with fans.
To quote: It's been a big month for Dead Nation! We've confirmed that online co-op play will be included from day one and also shown off three special zombies - the Mouth, Jumper, and Bombie -- in our new "Know Your Enemies" video and there's still more to come in October.
But one thing we haven't yet discussed is audio. With Dead Nation, it's vital that we create a skin-crawling atmosphere; more importantly, the music needs to adapt to the intensity of the on-screen carnage.
I thought it would be fun to address some common questions related to Dead Nation's audio design, everything from the zombie groans to dynamic music to soundtrack inspirations. I hope you enjoy it, and be sure to listen to the sample track here.
How did you start working with Housemarque?
The first game that I worked on with Housemarque was Super Stardust HD, the original soundtrack and sound design. I was in-house audio director in Frozenbyte Inc. back then and working outsourced. SSHD was a awesome...
160w ago - Southpeak Games European PR Manager Rob Burman has announced news today of a contest alongside a video on 3D Dot Game Heroes PS3 character design.
To quote: I'm here to reveal an exciting competition we're working on with the PlayStation Blog Europe that could see you, yes YOU, winning a super duper limited edition prize and a copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes - which is coming exclusively to PlayStation 3 on May 14th.
But what's the competition, I hear you cry... well, one of the very cool features of 3DDGH is the character creator, which lets you make your own hero pixel by pixel.
If you want to be a monkey in a bowler hat, no problem! A robotic pink pirate? Go ahead. Seriously, as long as you've got a little bit of imagination, you can go wild with the character editor. You can even share them with friends by popping them on a USB stick.
To celebrate this awesome tool, we've created a simplified online version of the character creator - http://designer.3ddotgameheroes.eu/ - to give you a taste of what to expect from the more in-depth finished product and now we want you to make some fantastic heroes and enter them into a competition.
