PS4 Game Genie in Development via PS Vita Remote Play Loophole

350°
13w ago - Following up on news of the Game Genie for PS3, today Hyperkin Product Manager Chris Gallizzi revealed that a PS Vita Remote Play security loophole in the PS4's design may allow them to bring their Game Genie cheat device to the PlayStation 4.

While this may not be related to the rumored PS4 vulnerability or purported PS4 exploit found, it does sound promising indeed using a hidden Wi-Fi signal to detect a backdoor entry to the system!

In 2012, just over two decades after its creation, Game Genie made a quiet return to market. This new Game Genie, developed by Hyperkin for the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS, modified your save game...

103w ago - Sony Handheld Consoles Product Planning and Platform Software Innovation Director Don Mesa has announced that PS3 Remote Play is bringing God of War, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collections to PS Vita owners today!

To quote: We've got some great news for PS Vita owners today concerning [Register or Login to view links], the application that enables you to interact remotely with PS3 using your PS Vita and a Wi-Fi connection.

Starting today, PS3 owners will be able to download an update for God of War Collection and Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection that will enable these classic games to be played from their PS Vita using the Remote Play function.

So what does this mean? It means you'll be able to enjoy two classic HD collections almost anywhere, whether you're around your PS3 or not, from the comfort of your PS Vita and a Wi-Fi signal. Both collections include customizable control options, so you can choose to have the R2 and L2 buttons from your PS3 mapped to PS Vita's rear touchpad.

Videos: PlayStation Vita PS3 Remote Play Gaming Demos via CFW?

750°
136w ago - This weekend Spanish user homer49 has posted some videos on YouTube of PlayStation Vita allegedly running several games via Remote Play with PS3 Custom Firmware (CFW) 3.55 and 3.41.

Titles demonstrated below include Red Dead Redemption, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Alice: Madness Returns, and Mortal Kombat supposedly running on the PS Vita handheld console.

To quote from PlayStationLifeStyle.net (linked above): Another element of intrigue also comes in at the 1:53 mark of the Batman: Arkham Asylum video, which appears to show how the PS3's controls are mapped to the Vita's inputs.

He did leave an unclear, cryptic message at the beginning of the Alice video in response to claims that his videos are fake, which makes no sense even when translated:

Is it remote play? Obviously, yes. Is it fake? Did you have a dream? That maybe it was so real you couldn't distinguish it from reality. And if you couldn't wake up from this dream, how would you know if you're not dreaming? One more time, Sony does not tell the truth.

How to Remote Play PlayStation 3 PS Vita, and play any PS3 game. You will need:

  • PS3 CFW 3.55 or 3.41
  • Multiman installed (eg)
  • Register PS Vita PS3 mobile phone.

Sony Denies Reports of PS3 Remote Play Compatibility for PS Vita

850°
143w ago - Following up on the previous report by Eurogamer, today Sony Computer Entertainment Senior VP Yoshio Matsumoto and Division 2 Software Development Head Muneki Shimada denied the report meaning there isn't a universal solution planned for making all PS3 games playable remotely on PS Vita.

To quote via Andriasang.com (linked above): "Freelance journalist Munechika Nishida conducted an interview with Sony's PlayStation Vita development staff for the latest installment of his "Random Tracking" series at Impress Watch.

He asked Sony Computer Entertainment Senior VP Yoshio Matsumoto and Division 2 Software Development Head Muneki Shimada about the reports.

"That information is mistaken," said Matsumoto. "The compatibility is achieved on the side of the PS3 game, just like normal."

Shimada agreed, saying that as with previous implementations of Remote Play, games will need API support."
