Videos: PS Vita Firmware 2.10 Hello World and VHBL Demos, TN-V v3

400°
6w ago - Following up on Sony's recent PS Vita Firmware 2.10 release, PlayStation Vita hacker The Z has shared some videos of a Hello World and VHBL running on it alongside news of TN-V v3 incoming.

Below are the details via Wololo, to quote: It is no secret that PS Vita scene member The Z has a PSP hack available and running on the Vita. He actually mentioned that a while ago back when 2.06 was the latest and greatest.

Today, as firmware 2.10 was announced then quickly made available, we got the usual flow of questions: Have exploits been patched? Does VHBL still work? Will TN save the world from the Giant Crab?

Well at least now we can at least answer one of those, as The Z was quick to confirm that his current exploit is still alive on PS Vita 2.10, as shown in the video below.

Don’t get too excited though. This is, as is now the tradition, “only” a usermode exploit inside of the PSP emulator, running through an undisclosed PSP game, and The Z has not announced anything about a release.

To some of you, this might sound like a broken record now, but new people...

Video: Piecing Together the Weird World of Tearaway for PS Vita

50°
15w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton has posted up a video today which pieces together the weird world of Tearaway for the PlayStation Vita handheld game console.

Below are the details, to quote: Hopefully you all took the time to enjoy the new trailer for Media Molecule's forthcoming PS Vita adventure, Tearaway, last week. It's one of the loveliest titles inbound for any platform, bursting at the seams with invention, wit and creativity.

We stopped by Mm's Guildford HQ late last month to check up on progress, and grabbed director Rex Crowle for a quick chat about the game's unusual inspirations and influences. Read on to find out more about the eccentric themes that the team are pulling in an effort to make a truly unique video game...

Paper

First things first: paper. The entire game world is built out of the stuff, and you'll be manipulating it with your virtual fingers.

"I think it married together the main things I wanted to do with the game - of it just feeling very tactile and being something you really wanted to hold in your hands," explains Rex.

"And then we also wanted to provide players an interesting way of taking stuff from inside the game, outside the game, so they can build their own version of the experience and expand it out into...

Video: PS Vita Hello World on 1.67 Demo, VHBL Update Incoming

1000°
58w ago - Following up on Sony's PS Vita Firmware Update v1.67, this weekend PlayStation Vita hacker wololo has announced news of a new Hello World on PS Vita 1.67 alongside details of a VHBL update with a demonstration video below.

To quote: Hope you didn’t wait too long since our last VHBL release a bit more than 2 weeks ago… This is a new PSP user mode exploit by thecobra (also discovered a while ago by WosRet), which I confirmed runs on a PS Vita with Firmware 1.67. Unlike Motorstorm and Everybody’s Tennis, this game is available in the US store as well as some other countries (details to come). Check the video and details below.

Thecobra already ported VHBL to this exploit, and we already have something running, that just needs a few tweaks here and there before being released. So far I didn’t see anything that would prevent HBL from running on Vita 1.67, but that will need to be fully confirmed in the days to come.

The name of the exploited game is obviously kept a secret until the public announcement, and if you don’t want to miss the release, remember that history repeats itself. Sony will most likely remove the game within hours following...

Touch Controls in Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition on PS Vita

200°
68w ago - SEGA Executive Producer Mie Kumagai has detailed the touch controls in Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition on the PS Vita today.

To quote: When we were developing the game we wanted to incorporate the new features of the Vita into Virtua Tennis as much as we possibly could, whilst obviously making the best game possible.

One of the key features for the PlayStation Vita is front and rear touch. Virtua Tennis takes full advantage of this technology and allows players to play the most precise and responsive shots with a touch of their fingertips.

With a single touch of the screen you can tell the player where exactly to move to on the court, before taking one of a variety of shots by swiping your finger across the screen towards the area of the court you wish to hit the ball to.

A simple forward slide with your finger will play a top spin shot, a backward slide will play a backspin shot and a sharp backwards movement followed by a forward slide will play a lob shot.

Virtua Tennis also includes a match momentum system which rewards players for good shots by slowly filling the match momentum bar.  Once your match momentum bar has completely filled up you can also play a 'special' shot by hitting the shot with two fingers.

There is also the option...

Video: Step Into the World of WipEout 2048 on PlayStation Vita

200°
70w ago - SCEA Product Marketing Manager Wilson Cheng is here with an introductory preview video of WipEout 2048 for the PlayStation Vita platform.

To quote: What you'll find below is a specially narrated cut of the cinematic intro to WipEout 2048 on PlayStation Vita.

Essentially, the movie's goal is to take you on a journey through the evolution of motorsport in Studio Liverpool's vision of the world, up until the point where Anti-Gravity technology has replaced modern day automotive technology and the first season of the Anti-Gravity Racing Championships has kicked off on the streets of Nova State City.

So, without further ado, sit back, press play and let Game Director Graeme Ankers, and Art Director Lee Carus, take you on a trip through time to the year 2048.

What did you think? Pretty cool, no? What's really interesting about WipEout 2048 and the direction the team at Studio Liverpool took with it, is that it takes place in the not too distant future and serves as a precursor to the events that take place in the original WipEout on PS one. And because of that it differs from WipEout experiences in the past.

Races are now multi-tiered - one minute you're barreling through the busy streets...
