Capcom on Balancing Ultra Street Fighter IV on PlayStation 3

50°
8w ago - Capcom Senior Online Community Specialist Peter Rosas shared details today on balancing Ultra Street Fighter IV on PlayStation 3 below.

To quote: What's up guys? Peter Rosas here; some of you may better know me as "ComboFiend." I'm the Fighting Game Community Specialist here at Capcom USA and have acted as the Associate Director of Battle Design on Ultra Street Fighter IV (USFIV).

First and foremost, let me say it's definitely an honor for me to be on the official PlayStation Blog to talk to you guys about how the character specific battle balance changes for USFIV were decided upon and what you can expect to see in USFIV.

For those who may not be aware, the entire reason USFIV was made was due to ever-mounting requests from fans. They let us know that although a lot of characters had a possibility of winning in Super Street Fighter IV AE ver.2012, the gap between the highest and lowest ranked characters was a tad noticeable.

Additionally, the characters that were regarded in the dreaded "bottom five" category had an almost zero chance of ever winning a high level tournament. Since it was the fans who requested the game to be balanced further, we figured "who better would know what Ryu or Ken needs to win than those who are grinding with them every day online?" And with...

Capcom: Dustforce Launches Today on PS3 and PlayStation Vita

50°
24w ago - Capcom Producer Rey Jimenez announced that Dustforce launches today on both PS3 and PlayStation Vita platforms with details below.

To quote: In any other context outside of games, "S" rank being the pinnacle of grades wouldn't make sense. But since we're talking games here, we all know that the "S" rank is where it's at.

I have a theory that it originated in Japanese games (where many of the great gaming traditions started) and their disregard for A being the first letter of the alphabet. Whether or not that's true, the tradition of Capcom platforming lives on in Dustforce, which launches today on PS3 and PS Vita.

Originally made by Hitbox Team and released for PC, Dustforce caught our eye because it shares a few elements of the best platformers we've made: challenge, design, and soundtrack.

Dustforce seems very simple at first glance, and it really is. The idea is to move your acrobatic janitor through the level as fast as you can, while cleaning all the dirt, dust, and grime. You're given a few abilities to do this: double jumps, wall runs, dashes, etc.

There are also some tricks that you need to learn, like down dashing onto a slope for max speed, or learning to dash as soon as you land to maintain dash speed. Using these tools, it's up to you to find the...

Video: Capcom Officially Reveals Resident Evil 6 for PlayStation 3

131w ago - Today Capcom Product Marketing Manager John Diamonon has officially revealed Resident Evil 6 for PlayStation 3 alongside a video trailer below!

To quote: Ni Hao PlayStation Playas, this is John Diamonon, the Brand Manager for Resident Evil in North America, and it's been a while my friends.

Last time I was here, I announced MvC3 and you were all like, "Yeah!" This time, I have news that's gonna make you say, "EFF yeah!"

It's my pleasure to announce that the next installment of the canonical Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 6, returns on November 20, 2012.

That gives you a whole month to enjoy the game (enjoy life really) before the end of the Mayan calendar when the real zombie apocalypse happens. We figure you might need some practice killing the infected to prepare yourself.

Oops. Did I say zombies? Resident Evil 6 has zombies? Watch the trailer and find out.

WHAAAAATTTTT??? Man, when I had hair in the 90's, it looked exactly like Leon's. I seriously think there's [Register or Login to view links] for his doo. He needs a fade or something.

Anyway, comment below and tell me what you think. Oh. It might be a day before I get...

Video: Capcom's Asuras Wrath Points to a 2012 Release on PS3

250°
166w ago - Today James Gallagher has shared a video and word that Capcom's Asuras Wrath currently points to a 2012 release on the PS3 entertainment system.

To quote: After seeing this trailer at Captivate, the hotel was rattling with chat of 'God Finger', 'Heavenly Point' and 'Space Cuticle'.

The game was actually [Register or Login to view links] and, with so many of the games on show such as Dragon's Dogma suggesting a shift towards more Western influences with new Capcom games, it had a distinctly Japanese feel along similar lines to the likes of God Hand.

However, while there's nothing new about an action game featuring gigantic Gods, there's one series that PlayStation fans are particularly familiar with, so I asked director Seiji Shimoda how far the similarities run...

First of all I'm honored for Asura's Wrath to be mentioned in the same breath as God of War - I have played it and it's an incredible game. Superficially, there are some resemblances but we're hoping that, as you see more of Asura's Wrath, you're going feel that it's something completely different; that it doesn't really compare with anything else in action gaming.

Video: Capcom Announces Dragon's Dogma for PlayStation 3

50°
171w ago - SCEE Blog Manager James Gallagher has unveiled Capcom's announcement today alongside a video trailer of Dragon's Dogma for the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

To quote: Dragon's Dogma is a new intellectual property from the creators of Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 4. And while it resembles another [Register or Login to view links] series featuring monsters and the hunting thereof, we're promised a unique experience when the game launches in "early 2012."

I played a short demo and met with the game's director, Hideaki Itsuno, and it's producer, Hiroyuki Kabayashi, at Capcom's Captivate event in Miami last week.

"While they may have some superficial similarities, they are very different games at heart," explains Hideaki when asked about comparisons to Monster Hunter. "One key difference is that Dragon's Dogma has an overarching story whereas in Monster Hunter the focus is on the hunt."

In a nutshell, Dragon's Dogma is an open-world action adventure set in a world of swords, sorcery and enormous, deadly monsters. "When I was at junior high school I was really taken in by The Lord of the Rings, so I'm sure that has had a strong influence," explains Hideaki. "You can expect...
