Sony Updates PlayStation 4 / PS4 Software Usage Terms (ToS), Details

57w ago - Today Sony updated their PlayStation 4 / PS4 Software Usage Terms (ToS - Terms of Service) in preparation for the arrival of their next-generation video gaming console later this month.

Sony has added the Software Usage Terms for the new upcoming PlayStation 4 console, but they also apply to all the PlayStation systems with the following changes:

7. Resale

7.1. You must not resell either Disc-based Software or Software Downloads, unless expressly authorized by us and, if the publisher is another company, additionally by the publisher. Sony also reminds you that all the Software is "Licensed", and that you "do not acquire ownership" of it:

4. Software is Licensed

4.1. All Software is licensed, not sold, which means you acquire rights to use the Software, as described in these Terms, but you do not acquire ownership of the Software. If you do not comply with these Terms, we can terminate your Software License which means you will no longer have the right to use the Software.

Sony Rolls Out New PSN Terms of Service for PlayStation Plus

234w ago - A few months back Sony updated their PSN TOS/User Agreement presumably due to the PS3 OtherOS removal, and today TheSixthAxis.com (linked above) spotted another update that pertains to the upcoming PlayStation Plus service which arrives next week.

When you hop online with your PlayStation 3 or PSP console next, the PSN Terms of Service update you will be asked to agree to states Type 2 content (outlined below) may be unavailable if you don't renew your subscription immediately at the end of each period.

Essentially this means your PSN and PS1 games, PS3 and PSP Minis and PlayStation 3 downloadable content may become inaccessible if you don't keep your subscription current.

To quote: "There are two types of Subscriber based downloadable content, split neatly into those that you can re-download after your subscription ends and those that you can't.
