62w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman announced today alongside a video that Bid for Greatness has opened, and he is encouraging fans to own a piece of PlayStation history!

To quote: You know that [Register or Login to view links], but did you know that you can bid on it?

Today sees the launch of [Register or Login to view links], a one-of-a-kind auction house showcasing ultra-rare PlayStation memorabilia seen in PlayStation's Greatness Awaits brand film during E3. If you win a bid, you'll be the owner of an exclusive, real-life piece of PlayStation history.

Here's how it works: You'll log into BidForGreatness.com using your PSN ID. The site will tally all of your hard-earned Gold Trophies, and you'll use them to bid on 15 unique items (don't worry, you'll keep the actual Trophies associated with your PSN ID).

You'll bid on the items you want using Gold Trophies and skip the ones you don't. Each day will see a new item go up for bid for just 24 hours, so be sure to check back often!

Of course, you'll want to think strategically. Spend all your Gold Trophies in one shot to try and score your dream item, or split your proceeds and go for several? The choice is yours. And the best part is, if you're short...

Video: One Bullet Can Change History in Sniper Elite V2 on PS3

128w ago - Rebellion Senior Producer Steve Hart has shared a video today demonstrating how one bullet can change history in Sniper Elite V2 on PS3.

To quote: It's been seven years since the first Sniper Elite came out, so it's a really exciting time for us this week - we'll be showing gamers how amazing the reboot is shaping up in the demo we're releasing on the PlayStation Store.

All the previews for the game have been immense and the media have really been loving it and understanding what we've tried to do. It's only fair that gamers now get the chance to play, ahead of the full game's launch on May 4th.

The game definitely isn't 'run and gun', it's much more of a thinking man's shooter. You literally don't know what's around the next corner, so you have to think ahead and live by the mantra - Observe. Plan. Execute.

The demo is of a level early in the game where you have to hijack an armored convoy and assassinate a leading V2 rocket engine specialist. We really want people to experiment with the different ways you can play through the level.

It's not always about shooting - sometimes it's more advantageous to slip by unnoticed. Rather than take out one soldier...

357w ago - The PlayStation is a 32-bit video game console of the fifth generation. It was first released by Sony Computer Entertainment in December 1994.

The original PlayStation was the first of the ubiquitous PlayStation series of console and hand-held game devices, which has included successor consoles and upgrades including the Net Yaroze (a special black PS with tools and instructions to program PS games and applications), PS one (a smaller version of the original), PocketStation (a handheld which enhances PS games and acts as a memory card), PlayStation 2, a revised, slimline PS2, PlayStation Portable (a handheld gaming console), PSX (Japan only) (a media center, DVR and DVD recorder based on the PS2), and PlayStation 3. By March 31, 2005, the PlayStation and PS one had shipped a combined total of 102.49 million units, becoming the first video game console to ever reach the 100 million mark.

History:

According to the book "Game Over", by David Scheff, the first conceptions of the PlayStation date back to 1986. Nintendo had been attempting to work with disk technology since the Famicom, but the medium had problems. Its rewritable magnetic nature could be easily erased (thus leading to a lack of durability), and the disks were a piracy danger. Consequently, when details of CDROM/XA (an extension of...
