Video: Sony PlayStation Still Loves Devs - 1,000 Self-Publishers

25w ago - Sony Vice President of Developer and Publisher Relations Adam Boyes announced that PlayStation still loves devs and is now 1,000 self-publishers strong with a video below!

To quote: PS4 has been met with an amazing amount of enthusiasm and excitement from both gamers and developers alike since its launch back in November, and the 6 million gamers who have already bought PS4 have really embraced this next-generation gaming experience.

We've got more than 100 games scheduled to launch on PS4 this year alone, including Watch_Dogs, The Elder Scrolls Online, Destiny, and The Order: 1886.

That amazing lineup is made possible by the development community, who have been hard at work with our hardware, already pushing it to do things that we never expected. Recently we reached a significant milestone with more than 1,000 developers licensed globally to self-publish on our platforms, 200 of those licensed in North America since PS4 was unveiled in February 2013.

To quote: I'm Masaki Kawase, Lead Software Engineer and Shader Architect from Silicon Studio, and I'm thrilled to talk with you directly on game development for PlayStation 4.

It's an exciting time since E3, but let's roll up our sleeves and get into the nitty-gritty on making games for PS4.

We've been partners with Sony Computer Entertainment for years now (PS3 fans remember Silicon Studio for the PS3-exclusive [Register or Login to view links]), and we couldn't be more delighted to work on PS4. PlayStation is in prime position with PS3 and PS Vita, but PS4 will bring souped-up visuals for gamers anticipating cutting-edge experiences.

We're made up of two parts: first, we make traditional games, but second, we provide middleware solutions to developers around the world. 80w ago - Today Gamasutra has revealed several Sony PlayStation 4 / PS4 development Tools and Engines for those interested in developing on the next-generation video game console with details below.

To quote: "It looks as if the NDAs for several tool-makers supporting Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4 were lifted today, as our inboxes have been flooded this morning with announcements.

Below are the tools and engines that should be available now for those of you developing on the PlayStation 4. We'll update this story should any other announcements come our way.

Update: Added NVIDIA's PhysX and APEX, and NaturalMotion's Morpheme 4.

FaceFX

Animation tool FaceFX is billed as "an advanced facial animation solution unique in its ability to liberate artists from the complexities of creating realistic dialogue and emotive characters." Recent titles that used the tech include Far Cry 3, Halo 4 and Dishonored. More information is available here (facefx.com).

xaitControl

Germany's xaitment is supporting the PS4 with xaitControl, its AI software package for game logic and character behavioral modeling.

PS3 Devs Begin PlayStation 3 Flash and Registry Entry Analysis

211w ago - With the release of yesterday's PS3 FTP server which enabled easy access to dev_hdd0, dev_flash, dev_flash2, dev_flash3 and dev_bdvd on the PS3, several developers are now examining the PlayStation 3's dev_flash and registry entries.

Forum user diemetal has let us know today that Spanish PS3 developer [Register or Login to view links] has began to analyze dev_flash from PS3 Firmware version 3.41, stating the following (roughly translated):

"TeamHades has removed the three dev_flash that PS3 has. Thanks to the Homebrew PS3News we needed to extract (PS3 FTP Server).

We begin the analysis with some pictures of their content, we will later file by file documenting that we are not able to do anything and escape in the future a stable CFW."
