Video: Hands-on with PixelJunk Shooter 2 for PlayStation 3

209w ago - Sony's Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has shared a hands-on video today spotlighting PixelJunk Shooter 2 for the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

[Register or Login to view links] and Dylan Cuthbert are cooking up plenty of new tricks for PixelJunk Shooter 2, the follow-up to the 2009 PSN title that mixed retro-styled audio-visuals with progressive gameplay mechanics.

But once I picked up the controller at last week's NYC PlayStation media day, I discovered that PixelJunk Shooter 2 expands upon this formula in several key ways.

Light and dark. I quickly learned that darkness is not your friend in PixelJunk Shooter 2. Traveling though a dark area for more than a few seconds will attract invulnerable apparitions - the spectral remnants of a "lost civilization" – and almost instant death.

Faced with a long, shadowy tunnel, I turned my cannons on a nearby phosphorescent mushroom. While it bobbed like a metronome, I was able to stay within its small orb of light to pass through the tunnel unscathed.

That's when I discovered another threat lurking in the darkness: worm-like parasites that latched onto my ship's hull and slowed my movement to a crawl. Once exposed to light, the worms...

215w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has brought us all a video first look today at the new PixelJunk Shooter 2 for PS3 which is heading to PSN.

To quote: When it was released last December, PixelJunk Shooter received plaudits for its old school shooting gameplay coupled with modern elemental physics. Also, it's just plain fun.

As the first PixelJunk game with a story, it's also the first PixelJunk game with a sequel (as opposed to an "Encore").

Here are producers Deb Mars and Matt Morton with more on what Shooter 2 will bring. HINT: fan-requested feature addressed.

It's hard to believe 16 years ago [Register or Login to view links] achieved mainstream success with the release of Dookie, and today they've got a [Register or Login to view links] and their own version of Rock Band.

Qore caught up with Billie Joe, Tre, and Mike in advance of the release of Harmonix's [Register or Login to view links], which features – for the first time – new motion-capture technology of the power punk trio to bring their live stage performances to life.

Q-Games Reveals PixelJunk Shooter 2 for PS3 in Full Production

50°
219w ago - Q-Games Ltd. President and Executive Producer Dylan Cuthbert has revealed today to fans that PixelJunk Shooter 2 for PS3 is now in full production.

To quote: Well, I hope everyone has recovered from the PixelJunk sale bonanza we had last month - as far as I could tell people were buying up PixelJunk titles by the tenfold which is great!

For those that haven't already heard, PixelJunk Shooter 2 is in full production, full steam ahead, anchors away and all that... commotion to that order. I can't say much about it now, but it will have some features that are new to the [Register or Login to view links] in general and will be bigger than the first game!

We're busy implementing all the ideas that were left on the drawing board for the first game to make Shooter 2 as jam-packed full of crazy fun as possible...

I'm pretty sure we won't make a Shooter 3 because everything and the kitchen sink (probably quite literally) is going into Shooter 2. Keep your eyes glued to the Blog (in-between playing PixelJunk games of course) for more info on this in the future!

And for those who still aren't sure about the awesomeness PixelJunk Shooter really (no, really!) is, we're going to release a free demo of one of my favourite levels in the game...

Video: PixelJunk Shooter for PS3 Arrives on PSN Tomorrow

250°
242w ago - Today Dylan Cuthbert, President and Executive Producer at Q-Games Ltd., has announced that tomorrow PixelJunk Shooter for PS3 arrives on Sony's PlayStation Network.

To quote: The wait is almost over. PixelJunk Shooter will finally be available on the PlayStation Store tomorrow, Thursday, December 10 for $9.99...just in time for the holidays! (And another great gift is PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe for the PSP.

Remember you don't need a PSPgo to play Monsters Deluxe. It plays great on any PSP! That's something we've had a lot of mail about.)

As all you PixelJunk fans are aware, music plays an important role in all of our games. For Shooter, we worked very closely with [Register or Login to view links] and we really hope you enjoy the music as much as we do.

We've also added the ability to earn reward items in Home and have amped up our HOME PixelJunk area with a really cool new Shooter space. Be sure to check it out when it goes live next Thursday, December 17.

It seems most people are playing the game in offline 1p mode (which of course is engrossing to the extreme), but everyone should definitely try out the online play. It's a lot of fun and there are lots of like-minded...
