11w ago - Following up on their previous updates, today Sony's SVP has given PlayStation 4 fans more insight into the PS4's noise level, power consumption, media performance and more below.
To quote from DualShockers.com (linked above): "Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia Senior Vice president and Director of Business Unit 1 Masayasu Ito isn't as well known as Shuhei Yoshida between PlayStation fans, but given his technical role he's the best person to ask about some of the most technical aspects of the upcoming PS4.
Today he gaver some extremely interesting information about the console as part of an interview on the Japanese tech site AV Watch.
Here's a summary of the most relevant points:
While being always online is not necessary, a network connection is important to fully enjoy the features of the PS4.
The PS4 will initially act as a stand-alone web server for the PlayStation App. In the future there's the possibility of this to be expanded through the cloud, with the PS4 and PlayStation App interacting through the cloud, allowing cooperative...
11w ago - Sparpweed Creative Director Richard Boeser announced today alongside a video that Ibb and Obb on PSN has been updated complete with enhanced features and performance.
To quote: It's been about a month since we launched Ibb & Obb, our two-player, cooperative puzzle platformer.
Since the launch, we've been working on a patch to fix some bugs that players found, but also to add some features based on the feedback we got.
The most requested feature was to have indicators showing where players are when they fly off screen. Those are now in, along with d-pad support for those of you who prefer that to the analog stick. Also, we managed to improve general performance quite a bit - now everything runs at 60 FPS in full HD, with anti aliasing on.
For us, some of the most interesting things of the last month are the Let's Play videos that pop up. Often made by players that dive into the game without having played it before or knowing much about it. From a game designer point of view these videos are extremely useful.
We've seen a lot of people play during development, but it's different when players know the game is still unfinished or when they can ask you questions directly. The Let's Play videos feel more real. They show the published product and are often recorded...

223w ago - How is Windows 7 PC gaming better than Windows Vista gaming?
The Windows 7 64 bit edition seems to handle the 64 bit technology better than both Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista x64.
It seems to do this so well that even the 32 bit programs have extra room to breathe because the system resources and other background programs are able to run in an efficient 64 bit environment.
This is ironic, because many people were under the impression that Windows 7 gaming would not be as good because Windows 7 64 bit would need to use a 32 bit emulator to run 32 bit programs.
That was the case with Windows Vista gaming when you were running Windows Vista x64, but Windows 7 x64 seems to have overcome this problem.
One of other things that people may be worry about when it comes to Windows 7 gaming is compatibility. They want to be assured that they will actually be able to play the game. The good thing about this is that many of the games were designed with Windows 7 gaming compatibility in mind.
Windows 7 is built from Windows Vista so you should not have to worry about Windows 7 gaming compatibility. Windows Vista is compatible with all of the latest games beyond Windows XP.
Finally, Windows 7 was built to be compatible with older software and hardware...

To quote: Make Firefox Give Back RAM When Minimized To enable the setting so that Firefox gives back RAM, do the following:
1) In the Firefox address bar type: about:config and then hit Enter.
2) In the "Filter" search, type: config.trim_on_minimize
3) Right click on the setting and click "toggle" so that the Value turns to "true".
After performing the above, you will need to restart the browser and Firefox will now "give back RAM" when minimized. To undo the change, perform the steps again but make sure the value turns to "false".
