With all the attention being paid to the vaunted New Xbox Experience interface that will launch later this month for the Xbox 360, Microsoft quietly updated the Games for Windows - Live client today.

The update doesn't introduce any new functionality, that is planned later on with the release of a desktop client as well as the Games for Windows - Live Marketplace. However, the update does give the GFW - Live client a whole new look that's better suited for PCs.

The previous GFW - Live client didn't make much use of the bigger displays and higher resolutions that many PCs sport. It focused much of the interface in narrow boxes centered in the middle of the screen. The new client stretches across the top of the screen, and it presents more information much more cleanly than before.

Also gone are the Xbox 360 "jelly bean" buttons, the big colored buttons that referred to the buttons on the Xbox 360 controller. Those will appear if you plug an Xbox... More »

Thanks for all of your comments and support! It’s been a tough time for gamers, LBP fans, and MM alike! but it seems that there’s only about 1 week to wait - so thankyou for your patience. It’ll be worth it!

We were waiting to hear from Sony on the new release dates and so we held off on an update until now. They’ve pulled out all the stops to keep the delay down, so now we can let you all know the details.

It also allow you to re-scramble back to the original order once you modified the data you wants, then from now on it include the ECC recalculation algorithm that was private until today.

Chris Cao, Creative Director at SOE-Austin, has said that they want DC Universe Online to allow PS3-PC cross-platform play. Chris added that the problem is that when it comes to updating them it is much more troublesome when updating through the PlayStation Network.

To quote: He explained that with PCs, it’s easy to have players download enormous files, whereas on consoles, there are different requirements as to how much space the file can take.

Cao also said it was partly a production process issue. To allow for cross-platform play, the company has to make sure to get updates out for both platforms simultaneously.

“We don’t want the console guys to get [updates] earlier or later or either way,” he said. “And since they’re two such different systems, we really need to work on our side to make sure that [simultaneous updates] happen.

But I think if anybody is going to do it and make it simultaneously seamless for ... More »

A new build of the Wii GameCube homebrew launcher is now available. For those who aren't aware, as the name implies it allows you to launch GameCube homebrew on the Wii.

Download: Wii GameCube Homebrew Launcher v0.2

Changes in Version 0.2:

1. Support for front SD slot.
2. GameCube disc should work normally.

Background Information:

DOL loader is patched into MIOS. If Wii switches to GameCube mode, the DOL loader is always started. The loader will start GameCube homebrew if loaded by GCBooterHomebrew. The loader launches the normal GC loader if no homebrew is detected. This behavior can be disabled by reinstalling a normal MIOS. I don't have a GameCube disc, so I don't have tested it.

Installation Steps:

1. Copy RVL-mios-v5.wad.out.wad into root of front SD card (This file is not part of the archive and is located on S... More »

With the launch of PS3 Firmware update 2.40 on July 2, Sony has officially launched their own gamer reward system to compete with Microsoft's well entrenched Achievement system. Microsoft was the first the out of the gate, and has had two and a half years to refine and improve their product.

With this experience under their belt, is Microsoft's Achievement offering better than their rival's Trophy system? Or has the extra time allowed Sony to develop a superior reward system?

Xbox Achievements - A Brief Description:

Since the launch of Xbox 360, Microsoft has mandated that retail games offer 1,000 points spread over a variable number of Achievements, while each Xbox Live Arcade title contains 12 achievements totaling 200 points. Developers also now have the option of adding up to 250 points via downloadable content (for a total of 1,250 points), and Xbox Live Arcade titles may add up to 50 points via downloadable content (for a total of 250 point...
