Assassin's Creed gone gold

50°
357w ago - Update: According to IGN, it is now set for release in the UK on November 16.

Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced its highly anticipated Assassin's Creed video game has gone "gold" and is set to launch in North America on November 13, 2007.

The title is one of the most anticipated games for the holiday season, arriving on the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft at the MSRP of $59.99 with the Limited Edition priced at $69.99 - rated "M" for Mature by the ESRB. In addition, those who pre-order Assassin's Creed at GameStop will receive an exclusive Assassin's Creed art book bonus when they pick up their game.

"We've been working very hard for nearly four years to make Assassin's Creed a reality and now there is a confirmed date when players will get to experience the results of our efforts," shared Jade Raymond, producer of Assassin's Creed. "This is a huge event for the team. Our biggest reward will be everyone having a lot of good solid fun."

Assassin's Creed PC should be in shops early 2008.

Conflict: Denied Ops fires new shots

50°
357w ago - It's been a while since we've heard anything from Conflict: Denied Ops, but Eidos has ended the drought today with these ten brand spanking new screenshots.

Previous games in the Conflict series have gone down a (Desert) storm on console, but for this new instalment the series' four-man, squad-based formula has been ditched in favour of a focus on two-soldier co-op action.

Eidos has spoken previously of how Denied Ops features gameplay that's focussed on "accessible two-man tactics" - talking about switching seamlessly between teammates to lay down covering fire, exploring diverging paths, creating distractions and pinning the enemy under fire, for example.

It's due out next year on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. More screenshots at the link at the top!

No demo for Fallout 3

50°
357w ago - Matt Grandstaff, Bethesda Community Manager, writes on the Fallout forums that it is nice when you get a demo, but as a gamer, he doesn't always expects one:

"One thing to consider about demos though. For certain kinds of games, I'd say its not as easy to just break off a piece, and say, here's the demo. Sure you can take a game of Madden, let someone choose between two teams, and then make it one quarter. Or as of yesterday, just release a few songs for Guitar Hero III.

For a game like Fallout (or Oblivion), there's a lot of details that have to go into it since the game plays as a sandbox... where do you cut the user off. You might bring up that we have a playable demo that we've shown at events, but from the previews you read, you'll notice that the G.O.A.T exam is never taken, we never decided to save Megaton instead of blowing it up, and so on. Part of the reason for this is that for the purpose of showing the game, they didn't need to flesh out those details.

If we were doing a demo, there'd be a lot of time spent on deciding where a user could go, what quests to include, etc. For Fallout 3, we'd rather commit the time that can be used for delivering a demo into spending more time working on the final product."

Assassin’s Creed, Haze, Rabbids 2 delayed?

50°
357w ago - Ubisoft is to delay four games until next year, possibly including heavyweights Haze, Rayman Raving Rabbids and Assassin's Creed, the French publisher has announced.

In a financial report put out by Ubisoft, the company announced that, "As a result of the positive trends observed during the first half of the year as well as the positive outlook for the third quarter, Ubisoft has decided to postpone the release of certain games".

The titles in question weren't confirmed, but the report went on to state that, "Six franchises are now scheduled for release in 2007-08 (Brothers in Arms, Far Cry, Rayman Raving Rabbids, The Settlers, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and an unannounced franchise), compared with the previously announced seven."

The report then added: "Three new brands are now scheduled for release in 2007-08 (Assassin's Creed, Haze, Tom Clancy's End War), compared with the previously announced six ... the four games concerned will now strengthen Fiscal 2008-09".

Fiscal 2007-2008 ends on 31 March 2008.

It will certainly be interesting to see which of these games gets delayed. While it's no surprise to see the likes of Brothers in Arms, End War and Splinter Cell (given the latter two had been confirmed as being for 2008 anyway), it's slightly worrying...

Top Gear on GT5

50°
357w ago - Our inbox will be relieved at least. Not a day goes by without somebody firing us a note saying either they - or their amazing old Capri - can lap the TG test track faster than Stig. Next year, on Playstation 3, you'll be able to find out.

Top Gear has hooked up with Sony to make our iconic test track part of Gran Turismo 5. And as an office with the permanent distraction of a Playstation 2, race seat, force-feedback wheel and a copy of the current GT4, it's the best news we've had since Alonso missed out on the F1 championship.

The latest iteration of the GT series will also be fully online - and, alongside lapping the TG circuit, players will be able to download classic episodes of Top Gear via a dedicated motoring channel called Gran Turismo TV on the Playstation network.

So, how long do we have to wait? As with previous versions of the game a scaled-down prologue will come first with around 10 tracks and 60 cars. This will feature the Top Gear TV content but not the TG track. There's no official word on when this is due, but we're expecting it to hit the UK around Spring next year.

The full version of the game is due to arrive around Christmas 2008 and, again, details are yet to be confirmed. We have been told to expect around 900 cars and, of course, our track.

We'll...
