Sony Announces SingStar Online Battle Mode and Incoming Beta

50°
230w ago - SCEE European Product Manager Rob Rutter has announced news today of a SingStar Online Battle Mode and PS3 Beta coming soon.

To quote: I'm really pleased to be able to let you know about a great new gameplay feature coming soon to SingStar in the June update.

For the first time, you'll be able to take part in Online Battles against your friends in SingStar. When competing in an Online Battle, you'll send an invite to one of your PSN friends, match songs (you both need to own a song to play it) - pick-up the mic and in true MC style 'let battle commence'.

When playing, you can view your opponent's score live, and see them playing via PlayStation Eye.

As this is a new feature for SingStar, the team needs to test out the gameplay with real players, and this is where you come in! We're running a Closed Beta for our most dedicated SingStar players to come and help us test out new features and upgrades to the game. If you're already a SingStar player aged over 18 with a European PSN account, have the game, mics and an online-enabled PS3, we need your help!

If you're interested in taking part in the Beta, head over to [Register or Login to view links] and fill in the online...

650°
232w ago - At E3, Nintendo will be introducing new hardware, the Nintendo 3DS, which is described as allowing games to be "enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses."

It is not yet known how the 3D effects will work, but it is possible that it could work like this Japan-only DSiWare game.

Nintendo describes the system as a successor to the DS series, but it will also play DS and DSi titles. The 3DS is a temporary name according to Nintendo's short press release, but more details on the machine will be revealed at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The 3DS will be Nintendo's fifth iteration of the DS hardware. The original DS was launched back in 2004 in the US and Japan and 2005 in Europe and Australia.

Since then, the DS Lite and DSi have been launched worldwide, slimming the machine down and offering brighter screens. The DSi XL is the latest version of the hardware and launched earlier this month in Europe and is set to arrive in the US on March 28.

Earlier this year, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said a new DS would feature...
