PS3 Firmware 2.35 sneaks YouTube functionality in!

500°
336w ago - Sony claimed that all Firmware 2.35 did was "improve stability of some PS3 titles". Well, it turns out that the YouTube compatibility is one of those secret updates that occasionally make it unannounced into a PlayStation 3 firmware update.

The functionality was added via Version 2.35 of the firmware. At the moment, Mainichi Issyo (the crazy cat game downloadable only on off the Japanese store) is the only title to do so.

Videos are captured at 320x240, 30 frames per second and saved in an MPEG-4 file at 768kbps. Sound is recorded at 64kbps in AAC format. The maximum clip length is ten minutes.

Upon selecting to finish their recording sessions, players are given the choice of either saving their clips to the hard disk or uploading them to YouTube. Choose the latter option, and you're prompted for your YouTube user name and password.

The game then uploads the clip on the spot, showing a progress bar while you wait for the upload to complete.

336w ago - PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.35 is now available for download via Network Update or below. From the PlayStation Blog, Firmware 2.35 simply improves the stability of certain PS3 titles, according to PSN director Eric Lempel.

The list of titles affected by the update went unnamed, but Lempel did note that it has nothing to due with the lock-up issues a number of PS3 owners are experiencing with Grand Theft Auto IV.

Rumor: New PS3 Firmware to fix GTA IV issues on 60 GB model

50°
336w ago - According to a poster named intimidtr3 on the US PlayStation Boards, 2K games Tech Support have said that Sony are looking into producing a new firmware just for the earlier version of the PS3 to fix the GTA IV issues.

To quote: Hello Xxxxx,

There is an issue with the launch edition of the PS3 and this game, the game was checked over and passed as 100% compatible with the current version of the PS3, of course the earlier version has custom chips which mean that it is a very different animal from the current PS3 on sale.

Sony are aware of this difference and are looking into producing a new firmware just for the earlier version of the PS3.

Kind Regards,

2K games Tech Support

Despite what some rumour mongers would like for you to believe, no, Home is NOT a part of this update.

And so the wait continues...
