PlayStation Store getting a new look on April 15

100°
347w ago - Sony revealed today that they are sprucing up the PlayStation Store's graphical user interface. They plan to have it up when they release Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on April 15.

It is rumored that it will look a bit like the SingStore and navigation for the site will be via icons at the bottom of the store.

To quote: PlayStation Store Getting Overhauled In April
While Metal Gear Solid 4, DualShock 3 and God of War news may have dominated our Destination PlayStation coverage, one other interesting leak came out of the retailer conference.

According to sources there, the PlayStation Store is finally getting a graphical user interface overhaul, one planned to arrive alongside Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on April 15. The revamp of the PlayStation Store is said to give it a look more in tune with the SingStore, pictured above, which is already accessible from the PlayStation 3 version of SingStar.

Details were light on the change, but beyond a coat of paint, word was that navigation would change to a series of icons running along the bottom of the interface. We don't have official confirmation on this one yet, so consider it rumor for now.

Rumor: Harrison left PlayStation to join Atari

50°
347w ago - According to a UK trade publication, sources have told them that Sony's Phil Harrison has left PlayStation in order to join up with Atari.

The rumor further indicates that he will team up with a former EA excecutive and spearhead Atari's push into the growing casual gaming arena.

To quote: Harrison, who recently expressed his frustration at Sony Japan's lack of foresight on the casual games front - ceding ground to Nintendo in the process - will apparently join up with ex-EA executive David Gardner and spearhead Atari's push into the casual space.

While at Sony, Harrison - one of the most respected people in the games industry worldwide - has overseen a large number of high-profile successes, including titles such as EyeToy, SingStar and the forthcoming PlayStation Home project.

Sony reveals PlayStation HOME trophies

50°
347w ago - MTV's Multiplayer got a sneaky peek at a new feature in Playstation Home which will allow for players to receive trophies.

For example, trophies could be given out for participating in min-games such as bowling. In an upcoming build of the development kit, companies will be able to start desiging trophies themselves.

To quote: The panel itself revealed precious little more about "Home" that hasn't already been leaked from gamers in the beta or announced by Sony. We did, however, get an interesting look at some example trophies that gamers could theoretically collect for participating in some of the mini-games (i.e. bowling) scattered in "Home"'s virtual spaces.

In an upcoming update to the Home Development Kit (HDK), companies will have a chance to start modeling these trophies themselves and playing with them in "Home."

Much of the presentation was spent looking at ways of developing and implementing objects into "Home," from the aforementioned trophies to sillier items like a bubble machine or a camera to take virtual photos with a friend's "Home" avatar. Sony says users will have the opportunity to take one item into a public space at a time, though that could change between now and the final release of "Home" sometime in 2008.
