317w ago - Just recently on the G.A.P. (Gamer Advisory Panel) section of the US PlayStation site there has been posted a survey for all G.A.P. members. The survey asks:
Choose which XMB™ (Cross Media Bar) feature would be most important to you in a possible PLAYSTATION¬®Network update:
A) In-game access to PSN messaging
B) Ability to play my own music from the XMB while in-game
C) Larger buddy list and buddy-list features such as categorizing
Now this, combined with the recent PSP update which offers a feature that may only be used with PS3 FW 2.0 makes for a pretty strong sense that Sony is thinking about releasing the update very soon.
Now this also brings up another worrying issue for the fans hoping to get in-game XMB soon. In the survey it asks to choose only ONE of the following. Does this mean that the complete XMB menu will not be available in-game, and just a portion of it will? Let the speculation begin! Thus far, for those who aren't a GAP member their survey looks like this:
318w ago - On Sony's semi-official blog (linked above) a company representative commented that PS3 Firmware v2.00 would be released within two weeks, with more information on the update following tomorrow.
318w ago - Last week news broke that Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction contains PS3 Firmware Update v1.94 and is the first retail game with built-in support for the DualShock3.
Although not officially released yet on Sony's Web site (and we're unsure if Sony will skip v1.94 on their site moving right to v2.00 like when they jumped from v1.54 to v1.60 skipping v1.55 which came on some stock PS3 retail units), those who got their hands on Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction already have updated to v1.94.
Without further ado, those who don't want to wait for Sony to make a corporate decision can grab the PS3 v1.94 (USA) Firmware Update from the link above and update as normal.
Thanks to a nice guy on iRC EFnet #PS3News for helping out with this, and get those DualShock3's rumbling guys!
318w ago - The much-talked about PS3 2.0 firmware could be with us within days, following new 2.0-compatible features being added to PSP.
Newly-released PSP 3.72 firmware contains new Remote Play features which require the associated PS3 to be running on firmware version 2.0 - which has been hyped to high heaven within PS3 internet communities.
Among a whole slew of new features, PS3 version 2.0 is widely expected to add the ability to browse the Cross Media Bar menu while running a game, drastically improving the console's overall functionality.
Although there has still been no official confirmation as to what PS3 firmware 2.0 will actually add, or when it will arrive, Sony has today confirmed that it will allow you to boot up the PS3 using the Remote Play option on PSP consoles running the new 3.72 update. Are you getting all these numbers?
