Activision Announces Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero & DJ Hero for Fall

200°
258w ago - Activision continues in updating its Guitar Hero franchise this year with three new full titles coming this autumn, as follows:

The newly announced Guitar Hero 5 will offer "the ability to drop in and out of songs and change band members, instruments and difficulty levels on the fly."

The press release contains no other details regarding the game, but you can bet it'll be pretty similar to Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Band Hero is the second of Activision's Hero trifecta for this fall. Don't be confused, Band Hero is completely separate from Guitar Hero. Except it's very similar - it's Activision's attempt at a family-oriented Guitar Hero game, rated E10+, and will be facing off against Harmonix's Lego Rock Band later this year.

Finally, DJ Hero is something we've been hearing a lot of murmurs about for a while. It will feature "diverse music genres including hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance" and will include the turntable controller, images of which we posted earlier.

Apparently the title "transforms players into DJs who rule the club scene by creating original mixes of popular songs and music from the world's most exciting artists and DJs."

Sony Announces Vidzone Service for the PlayStation 3 Console

258w ago - As part of Sony's Pause event in Sydney, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia announced a new service coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3 - Vidzone.

The new service is an optional download that places a new icon on the cross-media bar (XMB), allowing access to a massive number of music videos on demand.

VidZone will also be bringing live concert videos, as well as behind the scenes, interviews and making of footage, to your TV when it launches on PS3.

To quote: According to Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, the service is aiming for a June launch, possibly to coincide with E3 - though this is subject to change.

The service itself, which is listed under 'music' on the XMB as a small TV set with a 'Z' in it, is free to all PS3 owners who choose to install the application. However, revenue appears to be generated from ad placement within the browser window.

While in the Vidzone, you can search for artists, by track, genre or album and you can save playlists. The menu is a simple up/down scroll through letters, rather than the pop-up menu generally used.

The selected video can be maximized with a tap of select, instantly filling the screen with sharp, streaming video content. You can also pause, fast-forward...

Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon 4 for PS3, XBox 360 and PC

259w ago - Ubisoft announced (PDF Report) today that it's working on a new Ghost Recon, currently titled Ghost Recon 4.

To quote: Some of our more observant readers likely remember this game coming up in a previous Ubisoft financial report.

Sadly, it's still a ways off, with Ubisoft crossing its fingers for a release sometime before April 2010.

Doubly sad is the lack of more information at this time, so we don't know if this "flagship title" is more in line with the original Ghost Recon games, or the more recent Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter series. We'll keep you posted!
