Blank Discs Inside Call Of Duty 4 At Best Buy? Better Open Them In The Store

50°
371w ago - Zak writes to tell us that his copy of Call of Duty 4 was blank. Thankfully, he opened it while he was still inside the Best Buy, so exchanging it wasn't a problem. (Though some random Geek Squad guy did accuse him of being a scammer.)
I generally read a few of the network sites, Giz, LH and of course for a chuckle I also read Consumerist. Now I lack photo proof of this as I immediately did an illegal u-turn and took my product back to the store, but I'll let you know anyways.

Yesterday I had exchanged an Xbox 360 game, 'Hour of Victory' as it was the wrong game, I wanted 'Call of Duty 4'. The girl at customer service was happy to oblige me and I was told to walk back and pick up whatever game I wanted to exchange. CoD4 wasn't on he shelf so I asked an associate walking around and she checked stock, where the title showed up in transit. She went into the back as they had just gotten a shipment earlier, and low and behold here she comes with my blessed CoD4!

I take it up front, finish my exchange and head home. Halfway there my buddy opens up this FACTORY SEALED copy and starts laughing followed by a couple choice four lettered words. I look and staring back at us out of the box is a completely virgin (even fingerprintless) disc. U-TURN! We get back to Best Buy and I walk up to the associate who had...

PS3 Exclusive Haze IS Coming This Year... in December

    50°
371w ago - Back at E3, Sony spent a lot of time hyping up two big third-party PlayStation 3 exclusives for this fall: Unreal Tournament III and Haze.

Unreal Tournament III has slipped into 2008 according to Midway (or late December according to Epic), so that begs the question: What about Haze? At one point it was set for release in November, but now EB Games is reporting a launch in early December, with a December 4th release date.

Sources close to Ubisoft tell me that the game is indeed coming this year (although I'm hearing December 11th), so it looks like Sony will at least get one third-party exclusive out the door. Still, I bet the house that Ken Kutaragi built is kicking itself that it didn't lock up Assassin's Creed as a PS3 exclusive, especially with early review scores like a 9.5 from Game Informer. (I've played the game but my thoughts can't be posted until Tuesday morning.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Categorically Denies Rumors of High Failure Rate of 40GB PS3

    50°
371w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) can categorically deny that there is a 40% failure rate on the newly release 40GB PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3) as has been reported on a Dutch website. Having launched in October, the 40GB PS3 has encountered the same industry leading, very low failure rates, comparable to the low level failure rates of the 60GB PS3.

"We are very proud of the quality and reliability of PLAYSTATION 3 and are disappointed that such extremely sloppy journalism has resulted in this totally inaccurate story," said David Reeves, President, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "Since launching the 40GB PS3, we have experienced a fantastic jump in sales and the failure rates have remained at the very low level that we not only strive for, but have been achieving since the launch of PS3."

PS3 development was easy, says COD4 developer

    50°
371w ago - It's been a common excuse for underwhelming early PS3 releases, but according to Infinity Ward, the developer of the Call of Duty series, developing the game on the PlayStation 3 was easy.

Many a developer has moaned at the complexity of the code behind sony's next-gen console, but there were no problems for Infinity Ward as they worked on the newly released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

They put their success down to the fact that they do not dedicated more energy to one platform - and in fact spread out resources and split up teams to work on the game across the different platforms.

Prioritising one console over the other has resulted in many games being released earlier on one console, and later on another - with the PS3 release of certain games often coming after the Xbox 360 release.

The developer stated, "There's obviously some problem with all the delays we're witnessing. I think it's just down to allocation of resources. I think maybe people feel that they're resource strapped and feel a little bit more comfortable working on the Xbox 360 as it's been out a little longer [than the PS3]."

"We haven't had any problems [with PS3] and that's probably because of our development philosophy. We develop content-agnostic so we don't have a lead...
