The very-awesome Haze official Web site!

50°
326w ago - This is a very cool Web site featuring nice aspects of this new Haze game made by Free Radical. I always enjoyed the co-op in other titles. I bet this was expensive and time consuming to make.

To quote: We're hoping Ubisoft's Haze official Web site is a good indicator on how much effort went into creating the game.

While most official sites do little more than give a few screenshots and videos, the Haze site goes above and beyond, creating a truly cinematic experience that puts other sites to shame.

Yes, you'll need a decently equipped rig to experience the site, but it's truly worthwhile.

EU warns firms on text charging

50°
337w ago - Europe's mobile phone operators have been warned they must cut the cost of texting and internet access for users who are overseas or face regulation.

EU Commissioner Viviane Reding said firms have until 1 July to slash their so-called "roaming" charges.

A text sent while abroad can cost as much as 49 pence ($0.95) and a study found that transferring 1 megabyte (MB) of data on average costs £4.11.

Mobile phone companies say they have already begun cutting prices.

"Sending text messages or downloading other data via a mobile phone while in another EU country should not be substantially more expensive for a consumer than sending text messages or downloading data at home," Ms Reding said.

"If the industry does what it claims it can do, bringing prices down to normal, then of course, regulation will not be necessary," she added.

Price cap

The Commissioner called for "credible reductions" to fees charged to business travellers and holiday makers before the summer deadline.

She warned roaming charges of anything more than about 2 pence above domestic texting charges would be unacceptable.

Last year the EU adopted regulations proposed by the EU Commissioner that forced mobile phone companies to lower the costs of...

Technologies on the rise in 2008

50°
343w ago - A number of technologies have exploded throughout 2007 from Facebook and the iPhone to the Nintendo Wii.

But what will be making the headlines over the next 12 months?

Here the BBC News website gives its predictions for five technologies that could become big in 2008.

THE WEB TO GO

One of the biggest drawbacks of web applications is that they can only be used when there is an internet connection.

Although mobile working is becoming increasingly common, ubiquitous connectivity is still a long way off.

But there are tools that are beginning to blur the online and offline worlds.

Over the last 12 months a number of technologies that could have a significant impact on the way people use the web.

Search giant Google announced its Gears application whilst Adobe launched Air and Microsoft released Silverlight.

All the technologies have the ability to take rich web content and make some of it available offline.

For example Adobe has shown off an Ebay desktop application built using Air that would allow users to do much of the legwork required in setting up auctions offline.

The next time the user connects to the internet the listing would be posted to the website.

Silverlight offers...
