PlayStation 3 Trophies Reflect Skill More than Achievements

400°
299w ago - It was inevitable that gamers would compare PlayStation 3 trophies to the Xbox 360's achievements. While it's true that both reward systems add a considerable amount of replayability to games, it's still unclear which is superior.

The main thing that Xbox 360 fans can boast is that achievements are mandatory for every game available on the Xbox 360 and it has been that way since the launch of the system. It is a shame that the trophy system Sony implemented in many of its games were not available at launch and was not mandatory throughout most of 2008.

Hopefully, trophy support becomes mandatory in 2009, so that gamers aren't torn between buying games based on whether or not they support trophies. Regardless of which was around longer, trophies and achievements are very similar, and are in direct competition for gamers attention.

Here are the reasons why trophies should motivate more gamers to collect them all rather than collecting achievement points.

Almost everyone that owns an Xbox 360 wants to have a high gamer score to boast about. While it's obvious from a high gamer score that a person has a love for playing video games, it usually doesn't mean that this person is a particularly skilled gamer.

Most gamers that have a high gamer score have simply played a...

How to Get 40 PlayStation 3 Trophies in 60 Minutes

200°
301w ago - For many of us, try as we might to feign indifference, there's a nagging desire that we secure at least a respectable number of Trophies. So for smarter, time-deprived gamers, we've devised this quick-fix guide to scoring a respectable 40 Trophies in around an hour. Onwards, with dignity!

Burnout Paradise
Time: 15 minutes | Number of Trophies: 7 | Trophy count: 7

And we're off. The pristine, sun-kissed streets of Paradise City is where our Trophy hunt begins and, although each metal mug is quite easy to collect on its own, it's a bit trickier to amass all seven in a tight fifteen minutes. Our advice? Check your map regularly.

Repair your car - Bronze: An easy one to start off. Simply drive through an auto repair for that magic metallic pot. The nearest repair shop is located in Angus Wharf, just a few hundred yards from your starting point.

Perform 3 Takedowns - Bronze: That insipid DJ Atomika making your blood boil? Vent a little fury by barging three opponents into traffic or scenery. The best place to get this Trophy is the Lighthouse Rock Road Rage event.

Power Park your car - Bronze: Find two cars parked closely together - most roads will have them - approach them at about 30 and use the handbrake to swing yourself behind the first...

303w ago - SCEA Santa Monica Producer Tsubasa Inaba writes: We have kept quiet for a while, but we bring you good news today. The world of echochrome expands again!

Inspired by the artistic works of M.C. Escher, echochrome with its' minimalist black and white graphics plays with your imagination. Echochrome plays with your mind.

Its' deceiving artwork delivers mind-bending puzzle solving. It also includes a custom level editor allowing the players to make and trade their own stages amongst friends, or even submit to the developer.

As a token of appreciation, we have put a video together, introducing all of the 1,000 stages that will be made available in this update. I'm sure you will love it!

Now that we've refreshed your memory on echochrome, it's time to deliver the good news! We know many of you have been asking for Trophy support. Well... echochrome will receive an update patch effective today. Yes, that's right.

The update patch for echochrome includes the long awaited trophy support. YAY! This is a great reason for many of you who already have echochrome to go back and play, and for those of you who haven't picked it up yet? Now is the time!
