231w ago - Valve isn't quite as against the idea of developing games for the PS3 as previously thought.
Speaking to Valve's Doug Lombardi at the Left 4 Dead 2 event in London today, JoyStiq (linked above) discovered that the company is still "up on the idea" of developing for the PS3 - it's just waiting until it has hired some decent PS3 coders.
To quote: "If you look at The Orange Box - PC: 96 on Metacritic, 360: 96 on Metacritic, PS3 like... 84 or something. That's not even close to where we are right now with the 360 and PC and the reason is people."
Lombardi went on to say that "we have to get people under our roof who are dedicated, talented PS3 guys and then all bets are off. We can take the same sort of strides and get the quality out of the box and offer the same support post-launch on that platform, as well." Sounds like Valve-developed PS3 games are more a case of "when" than "if," nowadays.
When asked whether Valve is actively seeking to hire PS3 developers, he noted that "Valve is always looking to hire people. So yeah, definitely."
242w ago - Today Howard Lehr of TikGames has announced that the Mahjong Tales: Ancient Wisdom Booster Pack is arriving at PSN as follows:
You asked for it and we heard you! For those of you who are looking for even more Mahjong, TikGames and Creat Studios are excited to tell you that today we are releasing new downloadable content for Mahjong Tales.
We have created an awesome pack of downloadable content. This new pack contains 25 never-before-seen layouts that will literally give you hours more Mahjong fun. We took an animal approach on this first expansion pack.
All layouts have been cleverly designed to resemble different animals, fish, insects and the like. Bugs, cats, and even an elephant await their Mahjong Master. I hope you enjoy playing these new levels as much as we did designing them!
And, I've saved the best for last. For the ultimate in Mahjong-joy, we are also including a Level Editor. Now you can create amazing levels of your own. You can even share them with your friends, or work as a team to iterate on an existing level to make it awesome. And of course we didn't forget Trophies! All-new Trophies are available in the Mahjong Tales: Ancient...
242w ago - Every time we see the title "L.A. Noire" in the news, we always tense up in anticipation of bad news. After all, this is a project that seems to have struggled through a lengthy development process, and there was even talk of a cancellation at some point.
But as Joystiq pointed out, the latest update should be considered encouraging. Team Bondi (also responsible for The Getaway) is looking for plenty of talented individuals to join the team, perhaps in an attempt to push through the final stages.
They're looking for everything from animators to artists to coders to designers, so if you think you've got the skills, perhaps you'd like to apply. If not, and you're merely looking for good news concerning L.A. Noire, then you should be somewhat satisfied. Although we'd like to assume that development has reached a critical stage, we still have no official update on the team's progress.
Our last update said the game would be about a year away, and that was last fall; September, to be exact. Therefore, E3 may be the time when Rockstar announces a concrete release date for this long-awaited crime thriller, and if that happens, it'll be big news indeed.
Anyway, we'll let you know if there's any movement on the L.A. Noire front; at this point,...
