290w ago - Let's face it: Medal of Honor is an ailing franchise. What began as a phenomenon on the original PlayStation has declined into a series that boasts little more than average FPSs. Most will agree that the last truly great installments were Frontline for the PS2 and Allied Assault for the PC.
Since then, things seem to have gone downhill, and last year's Medal of Honor: Airborne didn't cut the mustard, either.
So when the chips are down, it's probably time to try something new. According to a portion of an EA survey, sent to us by a reader, and a variety of other sources, it seems Medal of Honor could be getting a drastic overhaul. Apparently, the survey focused heavily on a new concept EA is considering for their franchise, and it centers on what some may see as still-too-sensitive material: the current war on terror.
That's right, if this is true, you'll be seeking out Taliban and Al Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan. The premise operates around a true-life 2002 coalition forces mission entitled, "Anaconda," and players will take control of Petty Officer First Class Neil Roberts, a Navy SEAL and a man charged with the difficult task of saving Anaconda from complete disaster. Here's a snippet from the survey:
"In March of 2002, coalition forces moved into Northern Afghanistan to...
290w ago - Update: Apparently this isn't anything 'new' as PS3 online users are also reporting Army of Two, Burnout Paradise, and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 have an In-Game Friends List as well as Resistance for well over a year now.
Watchful reader StevieK08 has alerted us to the fact that the new Haze Demo has an in games friend list. To see it, get to the main menu, hit triangle once, triangle a second time, and voila!, up pops the friends list.
We have not had a chance to verify but Steve attached a screen shot that appears to confirm his story. If you have the demo, please give it a try and let us know. Thanks!
291w ago - While Metal Gear Solid 4 looks set to take the video gaming world by storm, Hideo Kojima is lamenting the fact that Japan is no longer "molding the world's gaming industry."
Yesterday, Konami held a press conference confirming that development on Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots had concluded and that the game has gone gold. Series creator Hideo Kojima took the stage and talked about the game's development and how pleased he is with how it has turned out. He also made some comments about overall trends in the industry towards casual games and, in general, how the industry is no longer steered by Japan.
"Casual games have become mainstream in the industry," declared Kojima. "It's not just a Japanese phenomenon but also something that's happening worldwide. There are new markets and possibilities opening up thanks to the trend, which is great. But on the other hand, we shouldn't forget about the hardcore gamers whose lives are about videogames.
The gamers who consider video games a subculture, and enjoy taking their time to sit down and play games that gives them energy and courage. I wanted to remind those gamers about the fun of video games. I know that we're going against the trend, but we've been working hard for the past four years so that the fire [of non-casual games] won't...
