Sony to Shift Towards PS4 When Developers Finish with PS3

650°
138w ago - Today Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer.net (linked above) that they plan to shift to the next-generation PS4 console once developers can't get anything else out of the PlayStation 3 console.

As previously reported, the PlayStation 4 is also expected to launch after Microsoft's new XBox console currently slated for 2013.

To quote: "Sony will launch its next generation home console when developers are unable to improve the games they make, a senior executive at the company has said.

When that happens, Sony will have to "seriously consider" launching the PlayStation 4, worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer.

"Looking at the platform cycle, when the platform becomes something game developers are not able to improve their creations with, that's the time we have to really seriously consider shifting to the next generation," Yoshida said.

While Microsoft is rumored to be preparing to launch its new Xbox in 2013, we've heard little about Sony's next home console.

Sony has insisted its focus is on the PS3, which recently enjoyed a price cut, and the PS Vita, due out in Europe early next year.

Video: Virtua Tennis 4 PS Vita Exclusive Features and VT Apps

139w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has made available some video footage today of Virtua Tennis 4 for PS Vita which showcases the game's exclusive features and VT apps below.

To quote: Virtua Tennis 4 for PlayStation Vita first stepped onto the court at E3. Even at that early stage in its development, the game showed signs of ambition.

It seems that Sega is taking great care to adapt the tried-and-true gameplay for PS Vita by extensively leveraging the handheld's hardware strengths, all without dumbing down the series's winning formula.

Now, at Gamescom, I finally got to see some of these game modes in action.

Virtua Tennis 4's core experience is nearly identical to its recently-released PS3 counterpart; you can create a character, start a career, and participate in tournaments while enhancing your skills through all kinds of bizarre tennis-related skill tests. Likewise, you can jump into the shoes of Andy Roddick, Roger Federer, or other real-world tennis stars.

What PS Vita brings to the court is a new, yet optional way to control the main serve-and-volley action, plus a series of "VT Apps."

The core gameplay opens up considerably thanks to the PS Vita touch screen. Tap on the screen...

Video: OMG-Z Showers PlayStation Network Minis in Blood

141w ago - Laughing Jackal Community Manager Ross Brierley has posted up a video trailer today showcasing OMG-Z which is now available on PSN.

To quote: I'm here to tell you about our latest PSN minis game, OMG-Z; a blood-splattering, zombie-exploding chain reaction shooter.

In OMG-Z we have combined two of our favourite things: Zombies and Explosions. Lots of them. More than 80 levels worth, each of them filled to the brim with as many Zombies as your PlayStation can handle.

The biggest zombie fan at Laughing Jackal is undoubtedly OMG-Z's artist, Jake, who was influenced by the work of Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard's work on The Walking Dead comics and a hint of Madworld's sense of style helped to make OMG-Z the most blood-drenched game to make it to PlayStation minis.

But OMG-Z brings more to minis than gore and explosions (not that there's anything wrong with just having gore and explosions ). Underneath it all OMG-Z has a rock solid chain reaction mechanic which understands the simple pleasure in shooting a zombie in just the right spot to start a chain reaction that sprays the level in blood.

The more zombies you kill on a level the more money you win, allowing you to increase your...

Video: Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death Hits PlayStation Minis

141w ago - Laughing Jackal LTD Development Manager Daren Morgan has announced today that Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death is heading to PlayStation Minis alongside a video trailer below.

To quote: Steve Jackson & Ian Livingstone's Fighting Fantasy series of interactive Gamebooks - "The adventures in which YOU are the Hero!" - have been published in 27 countries in 23 languages and have sold over 16 million copies.

Talisman of Death, one of the best-known Fighting Fantasy adventures, is the latest minis title from Laughing Jackal. Talisman of Death has also been the most controversial title in the series, with gory passages quoted by the Evangelical Alliance in their campaign to have Fighting Fantasy books banned as unsuitable for children.

Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death takes you to the once peaceful world of Orb, which is now in terrible danger. Dark forces are working together to unleash the awesome might of the Evil One. Your mission is to destroy the Talisman of Death before the dark lord's minions reach you. But beware! Time is running out!

Most of us here at Laughing Jackal are massive Fighting Fantasy fans. In fact for many of us, our earliest gaming memories are sitting...
