Q&A: PS4 By the Numbers with Sony Vice President John Koller

9w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman shared a PlayStation 4 Q&A today dubbed PS4 By the Numbers with Vice President John Koller below.

To quote: Though the slimmer, lighter PS Vita - and its upcoming North American release - was squarely in the spotlight of this week's PlayStation Showcase, PS4 wasn't left behind. Today, I caught up with Sony Computer Entertainment America Marketing Vice President John Koller for a status check on PS4's global rollout - an especially relevant topic, with the Japanese PS4 debut less than two weeks away.

PlayStation.Blog: Can you share any updates on PS4's global sell-through?

John Koller: The response has been fantastic. In the US, PS4 was #1 in sales for next-gen consoles in January, nearly doubling the nearest next-gen competitor. And PS4 remains the cumulative leader here based on today's report from the NPD Group.

Globally, we announced last month that we've sold through more than 4.2 million units as of the holiday season, making PS4's launch the biggest in console gaming history. I think the PS4 demand is indicative of how we've tapped into something special - and that's that gamers want to be recognized for their greatness and want to enjoy experiences together.

We're looking forward to what 2014 has...

Daylight on PS4: Designing the Hero, Protagonist Sarah Gwynn

50°
9w ago - Daylight Writer Jessica Chobot shared details today on designing the hero, protagonist Sarah Gwynn, in Daylight on PS4.

To quote: With the Daylight launch just around the corner, I wanted to give PlayStation.Blog readers a bit of background on our protagonist, Sarah Gwynn.

The reasons we chose to go with a female main character were twofold. The first reason being that because I was writing the game, she became (in a roundabout way) an extension of myself. I came up with the outline for Daylight based on some urban exploration I did in my high school days.

Specifically, a blighted little spot within my small Michigan town by the name of The Sheldon Buildings (officially known as the Wayne County Training School for Feeble Minded Children).

The Sheldon Buildings were a dilapidated set of buildings from the early 1900s linked together by a set of underground tunnels running throughout the grounds (they've since been torn down). A town within a town, the outer perimeter of the Training School was bricked-in by a 7+ foot tall wall.

Within the gates, the school hosted a hospital center, a gigantic, old-fashioned theater, dorms, an indoor and outdoor pool, its own police and fire stations, as well...

Forest Legends: The Call of Love on PS3 Coming to PlayStation 3

50°
9w ago - Alawar Entertainment Product Manager Polina Belavskaya announced that Forest Legends: The Call of Love on PS3 is coming to the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

To quote: Forest Legends: The Call of Love is a game for people who believe in magic.

Once upon a time, the Earth was inhabited by not only people but also Felizes - creatures that could transform into cat-like beings. Without warning, dark times fell upon the world, and war engulfed both races.

The humans forced the Felizes to leave the land they had called home for thousands of years and hide in the forests. Humans then outlawed magic and spared no opportunity to attack the werecats.

War, however, means nothing to a pair of young lovebirds. Forest Legends: The Call of Love tells a magical story of a forbidden romantic love - and of a betrayal as corrupt as the love is pure.

The player takes the role of Eveline, the only child of the chief hunter of a human town. She loves Aurelio, a werecat. As the game begins, Eveline and Aurelio meet in a dark forest, where Aurelio is wounded and then kidnapped.

Eveline must follow the trail of the kidnappers, free her beloved, and restore peace between the races. Her companion is a charming baby dragon that helps her to solve puzzles and figure out...

XBlaze Code: Embryo - Visual Novel Set in BlazBlue Universe for PS3

50°
9w ago - Aksys Games Editor Mike Engler revealed today that XBlaze Code: Embryo is a visual novel set in the BlazBlue Universe that is coming to PS3.

To quote: Hello... again... and again... Aksys Games, purveyors of quality digital entertainment, is pleased to announce that we will be releasing Arc System Works' latest tour de force, XBlaze Code: Embryo!

Taking place almost two centuries before the events of BlazBlue, XBlaze tells the story of Touya Kagari, a mostly unremarkable high school sophomore with a remarkable past, and his transformation from a typical teenager into the target of secret organizations, renegade mages, homicidal maniacs, and curry-obsessed co-workers.

And though XBlaze touches on the origins of some of the more important elements of the BlazBlue mythos (The Azure, Black Beast, and Takamagahara spring immediately to mind), its story stands on its own as an epic tale of disparate groups all fighting for control of the power responsible for the creation of the universe.

As for the game itself, XBlaze is a visual novel with a number of twists on the formula. One of the biggest differences is that, unlike most games in the genre that simple use static character images during conversation scenes, story scenes in XBlaze are more akin to an animated feature, complete...

Sony Goes Hands-on with Evolve on PS4: Meet the Hunters

50°
9w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with Evolve on PS4 introducing PlayStation 4 fans to the hunters below.

To quote: Four hunters push through the thick of the jungle, muttering warnings and checking their Sound Spikes for activity. The beast has been feeding, and the burst cocoon littering the dark jungle floor betrays the monster's recent evolution.

As the hunters trace the monster's footprints, it watches them from above, snarling and seething and ready to strike. High tension moments like these are often relegated to cutscenes in video games. But in Evolve, it's all just part of the game.

Developed by the team at Turtle Rock Studios (Left 4 Dead), Evolve is scheduled to launch later this year on PS4. The developers brought an early test build of Evolve to San Francisco to show off their latest creation. Much more than just a multiplayer shooter, Evolve's high-tension, asymmetrical design promises an experience quite unlike anything that's come before it.

Evolve is founded on the fun and thrill of the boss battle. In most games, boss battles are visually enthralling moments where players study patterns and exploit them to survive. But in Evolve, that dynamic has shifted. Four players work cooperatively as hunters to take down a fifth player...
