Since there's a good chance you're hearing about Shantae for the first time, here's a bit of background. Shantae is the name of the half-genie main character who carves through enemies with her destructive ponytail, and belly dances to transform into mythological creatures, animals, swords... and well, pretty much anything. There aren't many games that include the art of sensual dance as a main game mechanic, but Shantae pulls it off nicely.
The gameplay is best compared to Super Metroid or Castlevania Symphony of the Night, but with the visual styling of WayForward's own Ducktales: Remastered. WayForward puts its traditional feature film style animation in the front row along side rock solid gameplay, which has its roots firmly planted in the 8 and 16 bit era of classic gaming. WayForward's engine moves the...

11w ago - Ubisoft Community Developer Gabriel Graziani shared a video today introducing the cast of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag which is coming to both PS3 and PS4 platforms.
To quote: We're introducing a full crew of rowdy yet realistic buccaneers, privateers and straight-up pirates in Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, so we figured you would benefit from a little face-time with the roughest of them.
And who better to cry them out for you than Captain Edward Kenway himself, played by the talented Matt Ryan.
Widely renowned for his incredible charisma and mercurial temper, Captain Edward Kenway is joined by his Quartermaster and closest ally Adewale (played by Tristan D. Lalla.
The pair will quickly find themselves thrown in with the likes of the wiley and terrifying Edward "Blackbeard" Thatch, the gentlemanly yet morally grey Benjamin Hornigold and the downright jolly Stede Bonnet.
Meanwhile, the dauntless privateer Woodes Rogers seeks to eliminate the encroaching pirate threat festering in Nassau. But first, he'll have to contend with the wicked and merciless cut-throat Charles Vane (played by Ralph...
11w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton went hands-on today with Deep Down on PS4, which he states offers some ambitious dungeon crawling!
Below are the details, to quote: Tokyo Game Show was arguably a little light on big, never-before-seen new games this year.
Sure, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Driveclub, Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, Resogun, and the like were all present, correct, and looking very shiny. But if you were after something truly fresh out of the oven, pickings were slim.
There were a handful of exceptions, of course: Yakuza Ishin from Sega (as yet unconfirmed for a Western release), the very sexy looking Soul Sacrifice Delta on PS Vita, and Deep Down - Capcom's ambitious PS4 exclusive.
Along with Yakuza, Deep Down was the game that scored the biggest queues at the show, and my very first port of call. On the face of it, it looks like something gamers will have played more than a few times before.
You step into the sabatons of an armour-clad knight as he explores a dimly-lit dungeon, crawling with hideous creatures, and armed only with a lance. So far, so Dark Souls. However, there are three aspects to the Deep Down experience that set it apart as something entirely different.
Firstly, all its dungeons are procedurally generated. As with, say,...
11w ago - EA Sports Line Producer Sebastian Enrique confirmed that FIFA 14 is on PS3 today alongside detailing the emotions captured from great goals below.
To quote: After playing past FIFAs and watching real-world football, we realized that we weren't quite capturing how emotional it feels to score a goal. In FIFA 14, we want people to really feel that emotion of scoring great goals.
In addition to the emotion in the context of a match, great goals are achieved by either (or both) great finishing and fantastic build up play.
The major changes and innovations we're bringing into gameplay this year enable players to create and feel those exhilarating moments that happen when they've assembled plays their own way through midfield.
Finishing is both earned and rewarding in FIFA 14. We're transforming the tempo of the game and inspiring players to build possession through midfield rather than sprint down the wings during box-to-box matches. Last year it was too easy to fall down into creating the same cheap chances over and over again.
Major changes to dribbling - with new features like Protect the Ball, Sprint Dribble Turns, and Variable Dribble Touches - create more of a midfield battle, and make the magical moment of a goal more rewarding.
