161w ago - Today the well-known console modder Ben Heck has shared a video of his latest creation, namely a new PS3 Slim laptop demo!
To quote: "Making a PS3 laptop really wasn't an "uncharted" course for me.
Here it is, a new PS3 Slim laptop and this time it's black! With blue accents. Specs:
• 17″ widescreen 720p HDMI display.
• Built-in stereo speakers & headphone jack.
• Compartment to store power cord. (left side bottom of unit)
• Stylish pin striping to make games run at blast processing!
• More air holes than a stock Slim, not that it really needs them (cough cough Xbox 360)
You can check out more pictures and video below. Remember, if you have a crazy idea and the money, I can make the time!"
164w ago - Today Japanese video game peripheral manufacturer Hori has announced news of a new Sony-licensed PS3 Slim LCD screen modification that, when installed, will allow the PS3 Slim to go portable.
The devices attaches a 1,366 x 768 LCD screen and stereo speakers to your PlayStation 3 Slim console allowing you to essentially take the PS3 system anywhere you'd like.
Due out in Japan on May 27th for ¥26,040 ($275), and is able to display games in high definition (720p).
To quote: "Built by Japanese peripheral specialists Hori, it's an LCD screen that attaches to the top of the console, and is able to display games in high definition (720p).
Sounds slightly stupid, but then, it doesn't just give you a portable PS3, it gives you a portable Blu-Ray player as well (and, for the Japanese, it's even compatible with the torne digital TV peripheral). One that can display stuff in HD, for those times you're stuck at Gran's house on her old 28" SDTV.
168w ago - After reports of two new PS3 Slim models hitting the FCC a few weeks back, today Andriasang.com (linked above) has uncovered news of yet another, lighter, PlayStation Slim model CECH-2100A on the way courtesy of a Japanese retailer.
The slight weight reduction from its current 3.2kg to 3.0kg will be indicated by a change in model number from CECH-2000A to the new CECH-2100A.
To quote: "It's presumable that, aside from just the weight, something else has changed inside the system. Sony often makes minor hardware adjustments, changing the model number in the process.
The retailer expects Sony's PS3 shipments to switch to the new version in March."
170w ago - Last year we first uncovered Sony using the "Sand Dollar Enterprise, Inc" pseudonym to list PS3 Slims with the FCC, and today two new PlayStation 3 Slim models have been uncovered- the CECH-2101A and CECH-2101B.
In this FCC document [PDF] it states the difference between the CECH-2101A and CECH-2102B model is HDD type only.
For those unaware, the "X" in the models CECH-210XA and CECH-210XB represents the region coding, so replacing it with a "0" would signify Japan, a "1" for North America, "2" for Australia / New Zealand, "3" for U.K. / Ireland, "4" for Europe / Middle East / Africa and so on.
To quote: "We're not sure why Sony is passing two new PS3 Slims through the FCC. The wireless specs on the new PS3 Slims include 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth - nothing new there.
We're guessing that maybe Sony found a new manufacturer for some of its wireless components, and was forced to...
