Video: Sega Unveils Sonic the Hedgehog 4 - Episode I

250°
233w ago - Sega has unveiled Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, previously Project Needlemouse, on Gamespot (linked above) which will be downloadable on Sony's PS3, Microsoft's XBox 360 and the Nintendo Wii console.

While the game retains the classic 2D gameplay that made the series great, Sonic 4 will include 3D visuals, and be digitally released over Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network, WiiWare and the iPhone.

Due this summer, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 will take place after Sonic & Knuckles, but is "a brand-new adventure... what you are looking at is the beginning of a new story arc," says associate brand manager, Ken Balough to GameSpot:

"I think the best way to view it is as a first part in a much larger adventure. When Sega released Sonic 3, ultimately it was the part 1 of a story that saw its conclusion in Sonic & Knuckles.

In that same spirit, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a bigger story, and this is that first chapter. I think it's also safe to say that by the end of the episode one, fans will be very excited to see what's in store for episode two!"

"We're going to deliver a Genesis-era Sonic game as if it were created today that goes to the core of what classic Sonic fans desire. All the Sonic favorites [are] here for sure!

Capcom Working on Project Natal Game Based on Old Franchise

50°
236w ago - According to Capcom's VP of strategic planning and business development Christian Svensson, Capcom is working on a hardcore Project Natal game based on an old franchise.

Outside of tech demonstrations and modifications of several existing Xbox 360 games, we haven't seen what Project Natal is capable of.

Microsoft is keeping those games under wraps, however, G4TV caught up with him at CES last week and learned the following, to quote:

"I can't talk about what we're doing on Natal right now yet because we haven't announced it, although we have announced that we're working on stuff," said Svensson, emphasizing his vagueness.

He was willing to tease a little more about one unannounced game, however.

"I think you'll see again a brand focus on what we're doing there [on Natal], perhaps a brand we haven't seen in a while," he said with a coy smile, as Capcom public relations eyeballed us. "That's exciting."

Microsoft announced Project Natal would be released during the holidays at CES, but Svensson made it clear to me that Capcom was not rushing this one out the door to meet that deadline.

"We're not going to be at launch, just to temper the expectations," he said. "We're gonna cook something and it's gonna to take a while to cook."

237w ago - Below is a Project Natal video, courtesy of MixxedbaggDotCom via YouTube, for XBox 360 from Microsoft's presentation at CES 2010 dubbed Concept to Reality.

It showcases Project Natal as a ground-breaking technology, where the body replaces ordinary controls.

During Microsoft's financial analyst briefing, President of Entertainment and Devices Division Robbie Bach was asked to explain who the targeted demographics are for Project Natal, due out this holiday.

Bach [Register or Login to view links] Natal was for everybody, including hardcore gamers expecting to play Halo: Reach, to quote:

"Take your hardcore gamer, they're going to love Natal,"Bach explained. "Now, they'll play a different style of game on that when they're doing it. When they play Halo: Reach, they might be back with their controller doing some very, you know, targeted things. But the style of game they will play will be different."

"But they will absolutely love Natal," he added.

Bach also stated that 70 percent of the publishers are now developing titles for Project Natal. The company revealed a modest listed of Natal developers during this past Tokyo Game Show. The list included names such as Bethesda, Capcom, Konami, and Ubisoft."

Lead XBox 360 Developer Exposes Project Natal Inner-workings

50°
237w ago - Natal's lead developer Alex Kipman has revealed that the upcoming peripheral will demand 10-15 per cent of the 360's CPU resources.

He added that the device can recognise any pose in just 10 milliseconds - quick enough to suggest that the final product won't suffer from lag issues.

And in under two-tenths of a second, says Kipman, Natal can recognise the body shape of a new user stepping in front of it.

To quote: "Natal has to work on the existing hardware without taking too much hardware processing away from the games developers," added Kipman in an interview with trade publication New Scientist.

The lead designer added that he and his team had collected "terabytes" of data of people making poses likely to appear during game play."
