Free Resistance 2 PS3 Themes, R:FOM Map Packs, and More!

50°
301w ago - Insomniac Games Community Manager Bryan Intihar shared the following today on the PlayStation Blog:

We know what some of you are thinking: "Well, Resistance 2 has shipped–I betcha Insomniac is sitting back, cracking a cold one, and taking it easy 'til after the holidays." In the words of ESPN college football analyst Lee Corso: NOT so fast, my friend!

We've been on the message boards reading your Resistance 2 feedback, letting it soak in, and working diligently on patches (Yes, more updates are on the way, and no, I don't have a definitive date for the next patch. But trust me–it's in the works). We also have some really cool new community features coming to MyResistance.net over the next few weeks. Expect another blog post soon with more details.

New Resistance 2 Trailer: Free PS3 themes and map packs won't be the only reason to visit the PlayStation Store on 12/11. We've also cut a new Resistance 2 trailer, which features some really epic moments from the game. I'd say it's my favorite trailer we've put together for this title.

Now, since this is the holiday season, we figured it was time to provide you with some Resistance-related gifts that won't do any damage...

Chinatown Wars to Feature Almost the Entire Map from GTA IV

50°
304w ago - A Spanish magazine recently got their hands on Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS and discussed map details.

It appears as though the game will feature a similar map as GTA IV, though without Alderney.

To quote: Even though many people believed that Chinatown Wars would develop only in the Chinese neighborhood the game uses nearly the whole map that appears in GTA IV.

The districts that appear are: Dukes (Queens), Bohan (Bronx), Broker (Brooklyn) and Algonquin (Manhattan).

The only neighborhood from GTA IV that doesn't appear is Alderney (Jersey City).

Double XP This Weekend - Plus 50% Variety Map Pack

50°
314w ago - Heads up that this weekend from Friday the 12th - Sunday the 14th on Xbox Live (PS3 event will be later, closer to the 18th), we'll be having Double XP all weekend long on every playlist.

In addition, we'll be doing some DLC promotion on the Xbox Live Marketplace that will allow you to download the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack for 50% off, which means you'll be able to snag all four maps for just 400 MS points.

That's not all though, thanks to so many of you who have written in and requested; we've been able to work it out to get the Prestige Gamer pic pack back on the marketplace for download for all those who missed out on it's limited offering during our last LIVE fire weekend.

So you'll be able to grab gamer pics of every prestige rank after downloading the discounted Variety Map Pack.

Some of the IW crew and myself will be jumping on this weekend to prey on all the new Variety Map Pack owners wandering lost in Chinatown, ripe for the picking. Be sure to add the following Xbox Live gamertags so you can join in on some of the games:

- COD4artistWill

Video: Crysis - Unbelievable Custom Map

50°
316w ago - Crysis was thankfully blessed with an editor that allowed gamers to create their own mods, assets, and levels. I remember visiting a Crysis modification site, and taking a look at a modification that would drop a nuke and deplete everything in it's path for a good few miles. Today I came across another modification.

This time it's a custom level built for Crysis, and boy am I beyond belief. If you think you've put hard work into a modification then maybe you should take a look at the following pictures.

This medieval level is known as Niveus, and the artist who created this stunning level is Andrew "androkles" Hasko. The level is currently reported to run at 5fps on his machine. I'm right now speechless after taking a look at the pictures. Video can be seen below.. Enjoy.

Gears of War 2 Interview - New Map Announced!

100°
327w ago - Game Rumor recently had the chance to talk with Mark Thompson, an engine programmer over at Epic Games. The full interview will be posted later but for now here are some new interesting multiplayer details we learned from our time over at Epic.

-COG and Locust will each have 12 character models (7 each in Gears 1)

-A new map announced, "Dusk" puts players in a smaller, Raven Down style map with locust/cog battles in the distance scenery.

- New flamethrower has a "fuel meter" instead of ammo clips like in other guns, and will jam if continually fired for an extended amount of time.

- Hammer of Dawn will have only 3 charges until it "burns out". A 4th charge is possible, but it will cause the weapon to explode killing the character and hopefully enemies close by.

- Subway's trains movement can be turned on / off with a switch. Described as being "the hardest aspect to program yet!"

- A new gametype "Wanted" pits 9 Locusts on 1 COG or 9 COG on 1 Locust. This modified version of Juggernaut has a clock for each player counting how long each player is the wanted. The wanted can only be killed with execution style rules.

- Boomshot has been modified to hold 3 ammo. Each individual rocket has been weakened, however, if...
