Toys R Us Ad Indicates Wii Price Drop to $199 This Month

300°
266w ago - To follow-up on the previous rumor, today a leaked Toys R Us ad is pointing at a $50 Nintendo Wii price drop to $199 this month.

To quote: "While the Walmart [Register or Login to view links] we saw didn't put a price tag on the Wii–currently still at its launch price of $249 USD–the Toys R Us version does, pegging the new MSRP at $199.

And that's with Wii Sports included, not a stripped down package. The ad is purportedly from the end of September, due to hit the week of the 27th according to the tipster that forwarded a shot our way.

That's a week earlier than we were expecting based on the Walmart tip we received, but still not official in any capacity.

If accurate, that would mean a price drop announcement from Nintendo sometime within the next two weeks, possibly during the Tokyo Game Show."

Battle Tanks Coming to PSN this Month for PlayStation 3

250°
268w ago - Today Gameloft's Philippe Laurens has announced that Battle Tanks will be hitting PSN this month for the PlayStation 3 console.

To quote: Battle Tanks features World War II tanks that face off against each other in hopes to blow the other to smithereens. You can play against the AI or co-op with a friend in Campaign Mode to overcome 50 maze and paint ball-like levels.

There's also a fun multiplayer option also allows two to four people to challenge each other in Death Match modes or Capture the Flag mode.

Nothing beats blasting through walls with rockets, scorching enemies with flame throwers and carefully calculating the trajectory of bullets to win battles. The controls are simple: the left stick moves your tank and the L2 and R2 buttons are used for firing.

The aiming guide is highlighted when you hold down the L1 button and comes in extremely handy when you're trying to stealthily eliminate enemies on the field. To reduce the waiting time when a player dies, we added a new feature: Gun Turrets! When you've lost all your lives, you still can play and help your partner win the game.

As soon as an early version of Battle Tanks was installed on our PS3 test kit, it quickly became the most popular attraction in the Gameloft Studio. Everyone who passed...

Rumor: PS3 Slim at End of Month, 80GB PS3 Bundle Price Drops

350°
272w ago - Over the last few weeks we've heard from Belgium, French, Spanish and now Italian retailers reporting that PS3 price drops are in the works to make room for a new PlayStation 3 Slim console's arrival.

Today an employee of a large Italian retailer has confessed the following on [Register or Login to view links] under the username zallaaa, to quote:

"I can confirm the discount for Italy. I work for a big consumer electronic shop and we just received some bundles (80gb PS3 + Pacific Rift) that will be priced 299€.

Also I got an almost official confirmation that the discount is for emptying the channel for the slim version which should land the 30th of August (at least we should receive it on the 30th). 399€. The color is not sure, but silver it seems."

That being said, hopefully all of these reports will be confirmed on August 18th during Sony's 3-hour conference at GamesCom in Cologne.

The Last Guy Gets PS3 Trophies Tomorrow, Add-On Next Month

100°
282w ago - U.S. Producer Josh Miller has revealed that The Last Guy will be getting PS3 Trophies tomorrow, with an add-on coming next month.

To quote: I'm happy to announce that tomorrow the game will receive a free update that adds Trophies to the game. I'm excited since it gives me a reason to play through the game again.

If you haven't heard of The Last Guy, the game came out last summer, preceded by an "interesting" developer diary video. It's a classic and addictive "line" game with simple controls that uses satellite maps of real cities around the world, including San Francisco, Tokyo, and Sydney, as its levels.

Here's a trailer to get an idea of what the game is about and what the visuals look like.

You play a hero who rescues people hiding out in buildings and leads them to the safety zone for evacuation while avoiding zombie monsters that roam the streets. The bigger the line, the bigger the bonus. But bigger lines also make it harder to avoid monsters, who make people scatter when they get close.

You can use thermo vision to see where people are hiding, and pick up power-ups scattered throughout the levels to stop time, fill up your energy meter and more. The...

GDC '09: PlayStation Home to Launch Three Spaces a Month

100°
291w ago - At GDC 2009 PlayStation Home director Jack Buser stated that Sony is planning to launch at least three Home spaces a month.

To quote: "You'll see about three new spaces launched a month - I'll be shocked if we ever go under that number, we have so much in the pipeline," Buser said.

He mentioned that a recent "good space" (we're guessing Resident Evil 5) had a quarter of a million visits a week in the US, with 75 per cent of visitors spending more than 10 minutes there - something that far exceeds consumer's usual involvement with advertising, he argued.

Space devlopment takes four to six months, and Sony has new technology that can't be seen in any space currently in Home, Buser said.

Buser's talk, "Developer opportunities in PlayStation Home", amounted to a sales pitch aimed at developers and publishers.

"Online games consoles have had the concept of the friends list for some time," he said, splitting online friends into two groups - those you meet online, and those you know in real life.

"We noticed at Sony a problem with the friends list with the first group - you don't really know them. We wanted a place, a neutral environment, where players could go and really get to know each other outside of the context of a particular game," said Buser....
