250w ago - Producer Jason Villa shared some information on new features and improvements to the Online/SportsConnect area of MLB 09 The Show today via PS Blog as follows:
Along with improving the league system and layout, this year we focused on two major components of the Online League System...A) Draft System; B) Flex Schedules (with new Schedule screen).
We truly believe that the additions of these two components are what the Online Leagues needed. The goal is to allow users to customize as much as possible and to ensure that these league games get played!
Online League Draft System: While online leagues are fun, there's nothing like hand picking the team of your team. And taking it one step further than Fantasy Sports, you can actually take your team on the field and play with them yourself.
The draft system rivals that of any fantasy sports system. It allows from 6-30 players to hold a FULL LIVE Draft, with the ability to set your draft day/time, pick timer/length, chat (and harass), view the Player Card/stats of available players, view the Player Card stats of other users in your league drafting.
Another integral part of the draft system is the ability to set you draft queue. No matter how much planning you do, there's always a chance you can't...
251w ago - Producer Jason Villa discusses a new feature to look out for in MLB 09 The Show for PS3, namely the Roster Vault as follows:
Following in the footsteps of the My Slider feature, we've put more control in the user's hands. Community shared content leverages the creativity of user's like you.
And if you're one of the users that love to customize rosters and share with others, you know how difficult it's been in the past to relay your settings to other users. The Roster Vault in MLB 09 The Show solves that problem. The Roster Vault allows you to make all your roster changes (some new to this year), save them off, and upload them for others to download and use.
Here's how to upload a Roster to the Roster Vault:
1. Take any roster (on disc or a weekly Live Roster update)
2. Make any changes you'd like to the roster and players within. This could be player names, attributes, jersey numbers, accessories, handedness, etc...
3. Save the Roster to your hard drive
4. Connect online with MLB 09, via SportsConnect, select the Roster Vault feature from the Community section.
5. Select Upload from the Roster Vault options
6. Select one of the Rosters from your hard drive to upload
252w ago - MLB 09 The Show Designer Greg Batalucco detailed some of the things that help make the game shine on Sony's PS3 console:
For this year's version we wanted to make the game as accurate as possible and included in MLB 09 The Show are actual team mascots, new and improved stadium jumbotrons with game related movies, K boards, realistic crowds, and improved lighting and skies throughout the stadiums.
All these enhancements add to the overall gaming experience to make MLB 09 The Show as real as it gets.
One of the main things we wanted to accomplish this year is to add as much realism to the stadiums and the crowd as possible.
We've listened to what the community has been telling us: "We want that same experience that we get at a real ballgame, the look and sounds of the crowd, accurate and detailed stadiums, the smell of popcorn and hotdogs, etc." Well we can't add in smells (or can we?) but you can imagine.
We devoted many, many hours of research to get everything as realistic and accurate in detail as possible in hopes of making it seem like you are actually at the game. We want your friend, spouse or whomever, to walk in the room while you are playing the game and say ,"Hey what game are you watching...
253w ago - Senior Designer Eddy Cramm has shared an update today covering MLB 09 The Show training modes via PS Blog as follows:
I am here to talk about the new features in Road to the Show. When all of this RTTS stuff started 3 years ago, the whole idea behind it was to give a unique career mode experience that focused exclusively on you. Initially that meant that we would fast-forward you to your events so that you only dealt with your fielding plays and your plate appearances, etc.
Because lets be honest, who wants to sit out in RF during a career mode and watch three groundballs to the infield. It sucked in little league and it sucks in a career mode, too. But as RTTS progressed, our focus grew to be more than that. It became more about giving the user more control of his path to the majors.
Last year really took a huge step in the goals and points system. The guys on the front-end team like Aaron Luke, Kolbe Launchbaugh, and Jeff Ullman have built a pretty nifty system. That's right..."nifty." And from a gameplay standpoint, we have always wanted RTTS to feel like you are doing exactly what you would be doing, from going to Spring training, to working up through the minor leagues, etc.
254w ago - This MLB 09 The Show update comes courtesy of Designer Aaron Luke via PS Blog today:
Starting with the front-end aspects, the PS3 Create Player system has received some new additions that will allow you to customize even more aspects of your player.
With the new Sounds Of The Show feature, we've been able to support audio customizations that will allow you to pick not only your batter walkup music, but also your reliever entry music and a home run celebration song. In addition to editing custom music, you can also create custom fan chants, cheers, and jeers to assign to your player (or any other player using the Edit Player feature).
The player accessories have also seen upgrades to support a variety of new items including: wrist tape, batting gloves in pockets, glasses, eye black, baggy pants, and stirrup socks for your old schoolers. But the player customization doesn't end with the Create Player process – we've also added in the ability to edit your player any time after creation. You won't be able to edit his position or attributes, but you will have full reign on editing his appearance, accessories, and the all-important player number.
Once you've settled on your player's look, you now have a choice - enter the draft and let your fate be decided by...
