305w ago - As a follow-up to the initial announcement HERE, this is what Sr. Development Manager at SCEA R&D Noam Rimon has to add:

If you've ever wished you could find everything you need to start your day on your PLAYSTATION 3, Life with PlayStation give you one more reason to do so.

This free service delivers a new way for you to utilize your PS3 to instantly access real-time news and information like weather updates from over 60 cities around the world.

I've also put together a quick video demo to make sure you're checking out all the new features below:

Life with PlayStation provides a stunning interactive globe, a 3D world map that you can twirl around to see live cloud movement courtesy of the University of Wisconsin, combined with up-to-date weather information from the Weather Channel, top news headlines provided by Google news, and live web cam images via the Earth Television Network – all localized to the select city.

And why not have your favorite soundtrack playing in the background while you go through...

Life with PlayStation Officially Live and Available Now!

305w ago - I noticed this on PS3Fanboy and have tried on my EU PS3. After the updates folding at home is now called Life with PlayStation.

To quote: Life With PlayStation was leaked yesterday, but now it's officially available to download. Simply go to Network -> Folding@Home.

You'll be prompted to download two update files. Once you're done, Folding@Home will be replaced on your XMB with Life With PlayStation.

Don't worry -- you can still cure cancer. But now you'll be able to check the news, listen to music, and research the weather all from one app.

Finally, below is a video of Life with PlayStation in action, which made made available by gaffyh via GameTrailers.

Check them out while you can, and if you snagged the file drop it on RapidShare/MegaUpload for others to play with and comment here.

Sony: Life with PlayStation Released by Mistake

400°
305w ago - Sony has told CVG that today's surprise launch of the PS3's news and weather channel, Life with PlayStation, was a mistake.

The channel went live earlier today, surprising the lucky few who stumbled across the update and managed to get it all installed before Sony whipped it back offline again.

The 126MB download changes the Folding@Home app into the new Life with PlayStation channel (F@H does its cancer-curing job in the background while you read the news), but the update is no longer available.

"Today, while testing the application, Life with PlayStation was available for download temporarily, by mistake," Sony UK told CVG.

"We will make [an] official announcement for the service launch shortly," it added.

Koller: PSP-3000 Battery Life Equal to Previous Model

307w ago - Earlier last week, Sony Computer Entertainment America marketing head John Koller revealed during a interview that the battery life of the PSP-3000 would be reduced by around 20-30 minutes due to the larger power draw of the handheld's brighter screen.

Despite this, Koller issued a clarification statement on the official PlayStation Blog today, reassuring consumers that the PSP-3000 model will have "equivalent battery life to the current PSP," which equates to 4 to 6 hours for games and around 4 to 5 hours for UMD videos.

The enhanced screen does consume more battery juice, but according to Koller, Sony's engineers have managed to reduce power consumption of other system parts, making it all even out.

To quote: Hi, everyone, there have been reports about the battery life of the new PSP system (PSP-3000) being shorter than the current model (PSP-2000), following an interview we recently did with Gamespot. I'd like to make a correction and clarify that the new PSP will have equivalent battery life to the current PSP, about 4 to 6 hours for games and about 4 to 5 hours for UMD videos.

While the enhanced...
