Sony's PlayStation Home Turns Two, New Games Are Incoming

50°
193w ago - Sony PlayStation Home Director Jack Buser has announced today that PS Home is turning two, and that some new video games are incoming as well!

To quote: It's amazing to look at the evolution of PlayStation Home and see how much it has changed since we launched in December two years ago.

From our humble beginnings in 2008, we've become a world filled with hundreds of games enjoyed by 17 million users worldwide and given PlayStation Network users a unique and dynamic gaming experience that can only be found on our platform.

The idea of what games mean in PS Home has also changed. In contrast to the handful of simple mini-games offered at launch, we now see a huge variety of games, including massive full-length games developed by some of the most prominent and innovative indie developers in our industry.

The experience of PS Home itself has radically improved over the years as well, with faster load times, zero-wait game access, intuitive navigation, and the addition of features such as group-based voice chat and robust inventory management.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so check out the infographic below to see how PlayStation Home has evolved over the last two years into an industry leading social game platform:

200°
195w ago - SCEA Product Marketing Specialist David Bull has made available a video today showcasing Dead Nation for PS3 turning up the heat, which is heading to PSN next week.

To quote: Dead Nation invades the PlayStation Store in only one week! We want to make sure that you'll hit the ground running because the zombie hordes will be relentless in their quest for fresh, warm meat.

Today, we want to show you Dead Nation in its full chaotic glory. Watch Super Stardust HD pro Tlo-Mek, who has since joined [Register or Login to view links] development team due to his gaming prowess, eradicate the zombie infection when the heat is turned up to 11.

Dead Nation is a twin-stick shooter but the controls give you far more flexibility than you might expect. In the video above, you can watch Tlo-Mek, some of you played Dead Nation co-op with him at a MLG event using melee, Rush, and the game environment to his advantage.

All three of these tactics are critical to survive Dead Nation's most fearsome battles, particularly when you're faced with special zombies, Jumpers, Bombies, and other lurking threats - in addition to huge hordes of the undead.

Study up on the control scheme now - the undead are only...

PS3 LV1 Syscalls Dumped by KaKaroToKS, Payload Incoming

550°
196w ago - Update: KaKaroToKS has now released the PL3 LV1 Hypercall Tracer Payload which can be used by developers to trace PS3 syscalls and hypercalls.

Today Dertyp at PSX-Scene (linked above) reports that [Register or Login to view links] has dumped the PS3 LV1 syscalls, and plans to update his payload soon to allow other developers to dump the calls.

To quote: For Those Of You Who Are Asking What This Is:

level-1 syscalls are used to call hypervisor functions. On a PS3 the hypervisor is known as as "lv1? (level1) since it is the lowest level that runs directly on top of the hardware. The operating system is executed on top of this and is known as "lv2? (level2).

The two common operating systems are GameOS which PS3 games run on, and OtherOS which is usually used to run linux. Since both OSes run on top of the same lv1 hypervisor, they use the same set of hypercalls which has been partially documented here.

KaKaRoToKS Recent Tweets:

FINALLY able to dump (over eth) all lv1 calls!! Will push it soon!

To everyone misunderstanding: no lv1 access, all I did was be able to dump the "call trace" of lv1 hypercalls. same as payload_dump_syscalls
