265w ago - A Nintendo rep has said that the only way gamers will be able to download the Wii Speak Channel is with a "Wii Download Ticket Number" that is printed in a pamphlet that comes with the Wii Speak microphone.
This apparently means that if you buy the peripheral it used, you won't be able to use it as you can't download the Wii Speak Channel.
To quote: But there's a catch, a fine print surprise. There is a pamphlet packaged with the peripheral that includes a 16-character code, a "Wii Download Ticket Number," to be used for downloading the Wii Speak Channel.
According to the pamphlet, this code "cannot be replaced by Nintendo or your retailer if it is lost or stolen."

267w ago - Sony Chief Executive Howard Stringer bristles every time he gets the question: Why can't the Japanese electronics giant be more like Apple?
The maker of the iPod, iPhone, and Mac computers consistently delivers supercool gadgets that are easy to use, while Sony sells music players, TVs, and cameras that get mixed reviews and often don't even work well with other Sony (SNE) products.
"Sony is a very big company," Stringer says by way of explanation. "Our toughest competitors are niche organizations."
Stringer is quick to admit, though, that Sony may face a troubled future if it can't rival Apple (AAPL) in creating simple software that makes its gadgets fun and in giving consumers easy access to music and videos.
Apple's iTunes store has long made filling iPods a cinch, but Sony's consumer electronics and PlayStation divisions have only recently started to integrate their offerings with those of the company's movie studio and music label. That's one likely reason why Sony's products earn profit margins of 10% or so, compared with the 30% margins that Apple's devices command.
So Stringer went straight to the source. Three years ago, he hired Tim Schaaff, a top lieutenant of Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and created the title of senior vice-president for software development...

"How about "this year" then? Sorry, you dont have too long to wait compared to the length of the project so far, but I know the lack of a date is annoying. If it helps v1.0 is in internal testing and will hit the Closed BETA in the coming weeks as will more testers by invitation."
Additionally, CVG (linked above) is reporting that the November issue of Qore will include invites into the next Home Closed BETA.
To quote: Meanwhile, it has emerged that subscribers of the US-only online PSN magazine, Qore, will get invites into Home next month.
TedTheDog's reply in full: How about "this year" then? Sorry, you dont have too long to wait compared to the length of the project so far, but I know the lack of a date is annoying.
If it helps v1.0 is in internal testing and will hit the closed beta in the coming weeks as will more testers by invitation. Something I mentioned to the BETA testers today is important to remember. 1.0 is a major milestone on our journey...
