Has GTA IV changed Video Gaming forever?

200°
334w ago - GTA 4 goes on world-wide release tomorrow (although numerous retailers have starting selling it), and while it'll undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest games ever made, its effect on the industry as a whole might not be so great.

You see, GTA 4 is so brilliant, so far ahead of pretty much ever other game released on consoles to date, that it's going to be hard to get back into the groove of playing 'normal' games.

It might well be unfair to compare every future release to GTA 4, but it has set a benchmark that, even only a few years into this console generation, might not be bettered. Open-city action games are likely to feel the full impact, with THQ's Saints Row 2 and Midway's This is Vegas both looking dated before they've even been released.

It's not that they look like bad games; they just aren't going to be GTA 4. I loved the original Saints Row and, perhaps foolishly believed GTA 4 wouldn't be all that different. In reality GTA 4 seems like it's a generation ahead in terms of game design.

It would be wise for publishers to hold off on new releases for a while. GTA 4 took me 40 hours to play through, and that took quite a bit of dedication over a few days. If you're only playing it for an hour or two per day and want to dabble with online multiplayer, you're...

334w ago - Below is a 10 minute video review of the upcoming GTA IV by Rockstar.

The review covers gameplay, presentation, story, and an overall verdict. The review is quite detailed and shows a fair portion of real gameplay, by that I mean non-cutscene work.

Anyway, enjoy:

Confirmed: GTA IV - It IS Better on the PS3!

334w ago - Sure, Gamoc's blog on Thursday was written mostly from the heart, but this morning IGN's exclusive GTA IV review was posted, and confirms much of what we said two days ago.

The perfect scoring game, with 10s across the board, clearly states that for those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. -Strike One.

There are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in, but it actually runs better than I expected' the review goes on. -Strike Two.

The PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. -Strike Three. You're Out, Xbox.

In case you missed all that: The slight visual edge goes to PS3. So there you have it - if you want the most important game this generation, why the heck would you buy it on Xbox 360? :P

Niko's Past: New GTA IV Trailer available!

50°
334w ago - Here is a new GTA IV Trailer in which Niko talks about his past.

They are still releasing trailers for this game even though most of it is viewable on Youtube and the likes (until it gets deleted after about an hour of it being put there)

Good to see that Rockstar are still persevering.
