228w ago - In the latest Edge magazine, John Carmack of iD Software states that the Xbox 360 version of RAGE just about matches the 60fps framerate of the PC version, while the PS3 only runs the game at around 20-30fps at this stage in development.
To quote: "The 360 version matches the PC's 60 fps," Carmack told Edge. "But the textures on many surfaces currently flick visibly between resolutions as you move toward and away from them, while the PS3's framrate runs at just 20-30fps.
"The PS3 lags a little bit behind in terms of getting the performance out of it. The rasteriser is just a little bit slower - no two ways about that.
"The RSX is slower than what we have in the 360. The CPU is about the same, but the 360 makes it easier to split things off, and that's what a lot of the work has been, splitting it all into jobs on the PS3."
However, iD Software still intends to release all three versions at 60fps and they're confident they can achieve this:
"Everything is designed as a 60 hertz game. We expect this to be 60 hertz on every supported platform," Carmack added.
"The work remaining is getting it locked so there's never a dropped frame or a tear, but we're confident that...

229w ago - Sorry PC gamers. Dante's keeping his Inferno to himself. Speaking with Big Download, an EA PR rep shot down any hopes of a PC version of the hotly anticipated game.
To quote: "When Dante's Inferno was originally announced in December, we attached no platforms to the project. When we came out with a first look for press in February we announced 360/PS3 and then in April we announced PSP.
We never announced a PC SKU nor are there plans for any," the rep said.
Oh well. Maybe PC gamers will have better luck the next time a major publisher decides to turn a contemplative literary masterpiece into a decidedly violent hack 'n' slash.
231w ago - An underground agent, reportedly working in conjunction with Four Player Co-Op, snagged some alleged screengrabs of concept art and details for a new Tomb Raider game.
To quote: According to the text accompanying the art, Lara's new adventure will be open-world, will feature a reworked combat system and - most importantly - will serve as an origin story for the young heiress.
Anonymity breeds contempt in the gaming news world - however, this report is supported by four pieces of news that have dropped in the past two months:
1. Eidos' president said the next Tomb Raider game will "reinvigorate the franchise."
2. Crystal Dynamics is hiring folks to work on an installment in a "AAA franchise."
3. Toby Gard, the series' creator, is leading a design group for an "unannounced project."
4. Eidos is terrible at keeping its secret games under wraps.
