PS3 TOOL DECR-1000A System Controller & Flash Chips Detailed

500°
244w ago - As we have been bringing you the first looks at the PS3 TOOL and its internals, we plan to detail every last part of the PS3 TOOL - starting with the big chip differences.

Today we are focusing on four important chips, specifically the PS3 System Controller, Flash, Flash Controller and IO controller.

Let's start with the System Controller. In the picture (below), it is top center. The System controller, CXR713F120A, is slightly different in part number from that of its retail equivalent (CXR713120).

It is interesting to note that we have also documented this chip in Prototype PS3 systems - meaning that the chip is most likely for old stock, reserved for development systems. Later on, in PS3 TEST's the chip model was changed back to that of its retail equivalent.

The system controller is equivalent to the medulla oblongata of your brain. It controls the systems basic functions - like power. It's the thing that makes your PS3 beep when you power it on. It also has some other interesting features, many of which we are still working on documenting.

To the left of the System Controller are some pads and buttons - the button resets the system, while the pads are for signals...

As shown in the video below (just after the 3-minute mark), the modified PS3 console also "lets the beat rock" with its 104 LEDs.

Below are some pictures of it in the light and dark for those interested, which also show off the modded controller with 9 LEDs.

A lot of work definitely went into this PlayStation 3 modification, and the worklog with pictures throughout the process can be seen [Register or Login to view links]. A nicely modded PS3 indeed!

SunDisk Chip for Nintendo Wii Reviewed!

400°
256w ago - The kind people of team D2SUN (linked above) have sent out some samples of the new Nintendo Wii [Register or Login to view links] for testing.

After testing this chip out I have to say that there is not much more one could even expect out of a drive chip.

Some high points:

•Chip comes retail packaged nicely.
• Quality of the pcb is excellent.
• Chip is large but fit's perfectly under the drive when placed correctly.
• So much more than just a drive chip, having the ability to dump disks directly to the onboard nand, copy .iso from pc to chip and vice versa, and loading them from the chip effectively emulating the drive all together.

It almost seems that the only thing it cannot do is play the game for you

Here is the feature list followed by some pics!

The SUNDISK final SPEC:
• plug and play,100% solderless
• come with A.I. Boot to auto choose region, support JAP/USA/KOR/EUR all regions perfectly,100% smart and play & play!
• support all old and last wiis
• support D5/D9 games
• support homebrew roms
• support GC games
• support all Wii games with same region
• support partial Wii games with different region

Belzar PS3 Modchip BETA Testing Rumored to Be Completed

750°
256w ago - Update: It's now confirmed as a fake, see HERE for details.

According to their Web site (linked above), Beta testing on the alleged Belzar PS3 Modchip is now complete, they have a fully working PS3 modchip and are ready to manufacture.

Of course, Hacktronics (same company) have also stated the Infectus Team is confirming the Belzar PS3 Modchip, however, the Infectus Admin Arakon [Register or Login to view links] to their claim as follows:

"I'm quite sure it's fake. For years, noone got ANYTHING working on the ps3, and all of a sudden a company noone really knows supposedly has a chip ready that does EVERYTHING? No small steps, noone finding anything at all, just a chip out of nowhere that has every possible function? Highly unlikely."
From the Belzar update, to quote: "Belzar has finished beta testing, we have now sent the info and working chip to our manufacturers, and should be receiving a sample of the final retail product tomorrow, at which time we will take pictures, and place them on our site.
