Incoming Bad Company update brings Maps, Bug Fixes, Trophies

292w ago - Remember BattleField: Bad Company? Of course you do. Some of you are probably still playing it. If you aren't, then you soon might be because the game is due to get a shot in the arm before too long.

After running a contest through which players could decide on which map pack DICE should start working on first, a post has gone up on the official blog to let us know that there will be other content coming when the map pack drops.

There's no indication on when that'll be, or if it'll cost us anything, but the accompanying patch will be free, at least. With this patch DICE are looking to fix several bugs, such as server lag and VOIP issues. There will also be various gameplay tweaks.

Not only that, but three weapons, previously only obtainable through pre-ordering, playing the demo or signing up to the newsletter, will be made available to everyone for free. Check out the full list of fixes and tweaks at the official blog.

Finally (saving the best til last) the patch will add trophy support to the game. PS3 gamers are being spoilt by all these free, content patches. Not that we're complaining. We hope to find out when this'll hit soon.

293w ago - Per Kevin McCann (President and Creative Director, Tiki Games, Inc.) via PlayStation Blog:

Hey folks - I'll keep this one short - the NOVASTRIKE update is finally out. Again, highlights of the update include trophies, tamed difficulty modes, customizable controls, XMB playlist support, and more.

You can also read about the NOVASTRIKE trophy requirements on PS3 Fanboy's trophy page.

I'd definitely like to thank QA, developer support, and my account manager - they were very responsive in helping us get the update out this week.

EyePet Brings Virtual Monchichis to PlayStation 3, Trailer Available

200°
295w ago - Sony's Games Convention press conference saw the announcement of one brand new and rather interesting title, one that takes advantage of the PlayStation Eye in impressive new ways.

EyePet, a virtual pet game for the PlayStation 3, lets players customize and interact with the "simian-like" titular beast, a furry digital companion that responds to user commands via the camera accessory.

EyePet takes advantage of technology we've seen previously in PS3 demos, allowing users to draw and scan in objects that the in-game creature will play with. The EyePet is said to remember objects it is shown and modify its behavior for objects that it is unfamiliar with.

Announced only for PAL markets so far, EyePet is said to ship in late 2009, giving us ample time to learn more about it.

Press Release: What makes a pet real? Introducing EyePet, the virtual pet that follows your every movement and command...

Leipzig Games Convention, 20th August 2008: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) introduced the availability of EyePet for PAL region. It won't make a mess on the floor or claw at the curtains - EyePet is the ultimate pet for modern living. Forget the hamsters and guinea pigs and get the perfect first pet for kids and adults alike....

Man inexplicably brings touchscreen to the PSP

50°
297w ago - A certain jube808 has launched a quixotic quest to add a myriad of features to the PSP that he believes should've been there from the start, including beefed up battery life, a better control pad, and touchscreen support.

Think what you will of his aims, he certainly seems to have some hardware chops, as he's got a touchscreen up and running on the handheld.

So far he's just got a proof of concept keyboard, which works with a finger or a stylus, but the hope is to provide full touchscreen support for homebrew gaming.

PS3 Firmware Update v2.41 brings new look for Platinum Trophy

100°
301w ago - It appears that today's PS3 Firmware Update v2.41 has brought along with it a new sporty-looking Platinum trophy.

While Platinum trophies used to look like a bizarre purple crown, the new version (pictured below) looks more like a sports trophy made of crystal.

To quote from Radiskull's comment HERE below:

"I've noticed 2 things with this 2.41 so far. The in-game XMB lag seems to be gone (at least for me), and the Platinum Trophy icon on the trophies page has a new look. It was previously a crown, and now it looks like a globe. Pic of it below."
