Orangepixel Games Coming to PS Vita, Starting with Gunslugs

50°
22w ago - Orangepixel's Pascal Bestebroer announced today that their videogames are coming to PS Vita starting with Gunslugs.

Below are the details, to quote: I'm Pascal Bestebroer, the indie developer known as [Register or Login to view links].

I've been developing games since 2004, which have appeared on older mobile platforms like J2ME, as well as newer ones like Android and iOS. That said, it's likely you don't know Orangepixel... yet!

With the help of the guys at [Register or Login to view links], I hope to change that and make my games more known to new audiences, starting with PlayStation gamers. So, Gunslugs will be the first of the Orangepixel titles to hopefully land a spot on your PS Vita this month!

As I mentioned above, I've been creating games since 2004, and all the Orangepixel games have a few key elements in common:

First, they feel, look and sound "retro." This is a very commonly used term these days, but don't judge the games because they looks retro - I also try to imbue my games with newer tricks, gameplay concepts and even some triple-A ideas, bringing old-school style games to a more modern audience.

The final element that all Orangepixel games share, is that they are hard. Not brutal, and...

Artist's Perspective: The Main Character of Road Not Taken

50°
24w ago - Spry Fox Lead Artist Brent Kobayashi shared his perspective of the main character of Road Not Taken on PS Vita and PS4 below.

To quote: Hi everyone! I'm Brent, the lead artist for Spry Fox's upcoming PS4 & Vita game, Road Not Taken. We've gotten a lot of questions and compliments about the look of the game's main character, so I thought you might enjoy reading about the process I went through in creating it!

First, I guess I should say that designing a game's main character/avatar is always tricky. The avatar has to work as a functional asset within the context of the game, has to look good in marketing materials and screenshots, but most importantly, has to feel right as something that represents you, the player! Easier said than done.

In Road Not Taken, the main character is a forest ranger of sorts (who happens to be blessed with mystical powers of levitation). Although the theme of the game superficially calls for it, I knew right off the bat that I didn't want to go with a typical "park ranger" motif.

The forest of Road Not Taken is mysterious and enchanted, and I wanted the Avatar to have the same vibe. So instead, I drew inspiration from more delightful/whimsical figures. Some of my key inspirations include:

•I had the great pleasure and fortune of working...

400°
24w ago - Following up on the previous PS Vita Dual Firmware Boot PoC demo, today Sony PlayStation Vita hacker [Register or Login to view links] has made available details on dumping games from PS Vita cartridges.

Below are the details, as follows: Dumping games from PS Vita Cartridges is now possible! - The beginning of piracy?

After Yifan Lu’s great hardware reports about the PS Vita, its motherboard and its nand, our user Katsu found a way for dual booting the PS Vita, which can kind of be seen as a downgrade solution.

But that is not everything that he was able to do. Katsu is on fire and also looked at the Vita cartridges... see below for some more electronics joy!

PS Vita Cartridge dumps now Possible - Does this enable piracy?

Katsu seems to be able to dump a PS Vita cartridge - you know, those tiny physical modules that contain PS Vita games, a cartridge, like we know them from the Nintendo DS and 3DS - and is therefore able to retrieve the games in the format how they...
