PS3 Torne Digital TV Recorder Add-on Announced for Japan

258w ago - Update: According to [Register or Login to view links], the PS3's digital tuner and DVR kit Torne will be updated to version 2.0 this June, which includes long recording, watch while recording and an improved Torumiru information display among the new features.

Today Sony of Japan (linked above) has announced news of a new 250GB model alongside their new PS3 Digital TV recorder add-on dubbed Torne.

According to the release, it's scheduled to be coming out in March, 2010 for 9,980 yen and will allow users to upload content to the PSP.

The 250GB PS3 will hit Japan on February 18, 2010 for 34,980 yen, and a combo pack will be released alongside Torne for 42,800 yen.

The latest issue of Famitsu Weekly also states that Torne users will earn PS3 trophies using the new device sinply by watching the last episode of several popular TV series.

The 'Overwatch' DLC delivers two game-changing multiplayer modes and new Fire Team Engagement (FTE) missions.

Final 3-D Blu-ray Specification Announced, PS3 is 3D Compatible

262w ago - Considering all of the press Sony has already got for PS3 3D gaming, it's no surprise that the PlayStation 3 meets Blu-ray 3D compatibility specifications as announced by the BDA (Blu-Ray Disc Association) today.

Press Release from Blu-ray.com (linked above): The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) today announced the finalization and release of the "Blu-ray 3D" specification.

It leverages the technical advantages of the BD format to deliver "unmatched picture quality" as well as uniformity and compatibility across the full range of Blu-ray 3D products, both hardware and software. The specification is also designed to allow the PS3 to play back Blu-ray 3D content in 3-D.

Notably, the specification allows every player and movie supporting it to deliver full HD 1080p resolution to each eye. Moreover, the specification is display agnostic, meaning that Blu-ray 3D products will deliver the 3-D image to any compatible 3-D display, regardless of whether that display uses LCD, plasma or other technology and regardless of what 3-D technology the display uses to deliver the image to the viewer's eyes.
