PlayStation 3 Trophy News Direct from Leipzig

300°
322w ago - Good evening everyone, I hope everyone's week has been full of joy... well, let us put a little more joy in your life.

As some of you know, a few of us are attending the Leipzig Games Convention this week and including some developer walkthroughs with various publishers, and we managed to ask the age old question to keep all you Trophy hunters happy:

Will your title support Trophies?

And here is the general consensus... I'll warn you now though, the day started badly for Sony's Trophy system, but certainly got better throughout the day.

- Prince of Persia - No Trophy support
- HAWX - Trophy support confirmed
- Shaun White's Snowboard - Trophy support confirmed
- Borderlands - Trophy support confirmed
- Spider Man: Web of Shadows - Probably not because it was too late in the development stage to add them in.
- Far Cry 2 - Trophy support confirmed
- EndWar - Trophy support confirmed
- Quantum of Solace - Trophy support confirmed
- Call of Duty: World at War - Trophy support confirmed
- Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon - Trophy support confirmed

So there you have it, as the holiday period approaches, more and more titles get Trophy support. Unfortunately the impressive looking Prince of Persia will not, but surely...

PlayStation 3 exclusive Savage Moon revealed, due November 2008

100°
322w ago - A PlayStation 3 exclusive known as Savage Moon was announced a short while ago, but very little was known about it up until today.

Sony has just updated PlayStation.com (linked above) with an introduction to the game as well as 20 screens! The description kicks off with "Savage Moon sees you protecting a remote off-world mining facility from waves of ravenous space bugs, looking to consume everything in their path."

To quote: Armed with a fearsome array of defensive weapons, your mission is to take your choice of the finest armaments known to humankind and keep the facility safe by strategically placing these guns which then automatically fire at their targets.

Will you select the dependable rapid-fire machine gun? The intimidating Chaos Tower? Or opt for another item taken from the range of destructive weaponry at your disposal? Choose carefully, as each one has to be manually positioned for the greatest effectiveness in destroying the increasing waves of monstrous insects.

You are the only hope left on this Savage Moon.

* Upgrade your weapons to increase their size and firepower, and research even more devastating technologies to aid your mission
* Devise your defence from a massive array of strategies - choose power over speed, or block routes to put the space...

EyePet Brings Virtual Monchichis to PlayStation 3, Trailer Available

200°
322w ago - Sony's Games Convention press conference saw the announcement of one brand new and rather interesting title, one that takes advantage of the PlayStation Eye in impressive new ways.

EyePet, a virtual pet game for the PlayStation 3, lets players customize and interact with the "simian-like" titular beast, a furry digital companion that responds to user commands via the camera accessory.

EyePet takes advantage of technology we've seen previously in PS3 demos, allowing users to draw and scan in objects that the in-game creature will play with. The EyePet is said to remember objects it is shown and modify its behavior for objects that it is unfamiliar with.

Announced only for PAL markets so far, EyePet is said to ship in late 2009, giving us ample time to learn more about it.

Press Release: What makes a pet real? Introducing EyePet, the virtual pet that follows your every movement and command...

Leipzig Games Convention, 20th August 2008: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) introduced the availability of EyePet for PAL region. It won't make a mess on the floor or claw at the curtains - EyePet is the ultimate pet for modern living. Forget the hamsters and guinea pigs and get the perfect first pet for kids and adults alike....

PlayStation Home to Include Adult-Only Areas

100°
322w ago - PlayStation's Home becomes more clear, with the news that the service will host over 18 areas where restricted trailers and possibly casinos will dwell.

If these areas resemble those near my home that have the same services, it might be best to to move.

During the recent Edinburgh Interactive Festival, Peter Edward, director of the PlayStation Home Platform Group, and Jamie McDonald, VP of Sony Worldwide Studios revealed some rather interesting morsels related to Sony's eagerly anticipated virtual life experience Home to Steve Boxer.

When asked whether Home will contain any areas where entrance is governed strictly by age (namely 18 and older), Edward replied that there probably won't be that many cropping up in Home's short term existence, "but in the long-term, we expect to see them."

The Home Platform Group director then suggested that while nothing sinister (read: pornographic or illegal) is likely to appear in Sony's world, it is possible that the odd casino could pop up or perhaps movie theatres where users could go to watch mature-rated videogame trailers.

Acknowledging that many other adult-only themed areas could conceivably come into play, Edward reinforced Sony's ultimate control by saying that "we have the ability to age-protect...

The Future of PlayStation 3

500°
322w ago - Ten years, the life span of the PlayStation 3. Sony has promised to make a future proof console, but how can it live that long? How can they continue delivering amazing games? Within 3-4 years we can be seeing a Xbox 720 and a Wii 2. Will Sony continue supporting the PS3? I believe so.

Sony is now hitting the tip of the iceberg with its hit games coming out, such as Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, and Killzone 2. Can it keep its momentum?

Yes, Sony can keep the momentum moving by the PSN store. It's incredible how just a few years ago we would never have seen this coming. The PSN store, where you can download full games, demos, trailers, wallpapers, PSP games, and more. You can now even download and rent movies and TV shows. In a few years from now, what can we expect to see on the PSN store? Whatever it maybe, I am sure it's going to make us realize the true potential of the PlayStation.

The PSN store is one main reason to look forward to the future, but that's not all. We also have Home, the online community, coming out this year. Imagine 2 - 3 years from now, Home will become its own world. Everyone having their own houses and apartments.

People will be headed to the movie theater together. Users watching TV together and sharing music through their in game stereo systems....
