PlayStation Home Feature Being Promoted in New PSN Accounts

50°
322w ago - According to Shae5O9 from the official PS boards, Sony's PlayStation Home is being promoted as one of the PlayStation Network's features to gamers who are creating new PSN accounts.

Many are hoping that this means Sony will stick to their word and release the PlayStation Home Open BETA soon.

Jack Tretton, SCEA president, recently said that the PlayStation Home Open BETA will launch this November.

However, Kazuo Hirai, president and group chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment recently said we will see the "Open BETA by the end of this year" which is slightly contradictory.

Needless to say, only time will tell for sure.

Review: Fallout 3 Looks Like Rubbish on the PlayStation 3?!

50°
322w ago - Andy Kelly recently reviewed the PlayStation 3 version of Fallout 3 for PSM3. The review has been leaked onto the Web and there has been concern as Andy's review stated that the graphics in the PS3 version compare poorly to its XBox and PC counterparts.

To quote: Our exclusive Fallout 3 PS3 review (from PSM3#107) has leaked onto the Internet and, as expected, a single sentence has been dragged out, beaten and interrogated under a spotlight.

This one; "The PS3 version compares poorly to its Xbox and PC counterparts." Which, in the parlance of the Internet, obviously means; "THE PS3 VERSION SUCKS! XBOX WINS! ANOTHER CRAPPY PORT!" But that isn't the case. The PS3 version just looks SLIGHTLY WORSE than the other versions.

The PC version of Fallout 3 is gorgeous. The colours are vivid, the draw distance is endless, the textures are high-res and the lighting effects are beautifully subtle, especially when you're gazing over the Capital Wasteland at sunset. It's the best-looking of the three.

The Xbox 360 version's textures are noticeably rougher than on PC, and objects in the distance aren't quite as clear. It does, however, boast an impressively solid frame rate. The game is, otherwise, identical.

NOW, the PS3 version looks the same as on Xbox, but things in the...

New Final Fantasy Versus XIII for PlayStation 3 Details Available

50°
322w ago - IGN (linked above) has translated some new details from Famitsu about the Final Fantasy Versus XIII characters 'Noctis Lucis Caelum' and 'Stella Nox Fleuret'.

To quote: The names of the two were revealed at the Tokyo Game Show to be Noctis Lucis Caelum and Stella Nox Fleuret. Stella is described by the magazine as a princess in the Fleuret family.

She and Noctis are shown in the magazine's screens discussing their ability to "see light." This may not sound all that special at first, but in Versus XIII, it's an ability that Noctis suggests keeping quiet about. Stella appears to be more open about the matter, even asking Noctis when he gained the ability.

Wondering what the characters' names mean? Typical for the FNC series, the two names are Latin. The three parts of the hero's name mean "Night, Light, and Sky." The three parts of the heroine's name mean "Star, Darkness, and Sword." Darkness is also the meaning of Stella's country's name.

Director and character designer Tetsuya Nomura shared with the magazine a few additional details on the characters. Nomura feels that the trailer footage (which you probably haven't seen, unless you made it out to the Tokyo Game Show) tells us a lot about the personalities of the two characters.

Stella, for instance, is shown...

PlayStation 3 Trophy Cards Real Time Sync Announced

50°
322w ago - PlayFire, known for their custom gamer cards, has recently announced a major update to their PS3 trophy card system. They have expanded their selection to better suite the latest three new trophy patches that hit PlayStation 3 for the new games coming out with trophy support.

The update doesn't stop there! In addition to the new size and themes, PlayFire has introduced 'automated level calculation' based off the number & type of trophies you have fully integrated and functioning with a new level progress indicator so you no longer need to constantly adjust or guess your level.

Now, this all sounds cool, and much love to PlayFire for giving the PS3 users a custom gamer card solution, but seriously, when will Sony gives us real time syncing with a flash PSN gamer card? Adding every single trophy and game will get old fast.

All PS3 owners want, is a gamer card that will update in real time just like the XBox 360's. What is Sony waiting for? Could they be waiting to integrate the trophy reward system?

Or are they just not really worried about a very important thing that pimps out the PS3 in forums, Web sites, and social sites? For now, PlayFire will continue to be a good solution.
