PlayStation 3 Triple Betas Explained

50°
320w ago - If you have been playing on your PS3 non-stop for the last couple of days, chances are you have one (or more) of the following betas: Resistance 2 Closed Beta (for now,) PlayStation Home Closed/Opened Beta, or SOCOM (the game not the gun or the US Special Operations Command) Confrontation beta - which you shouldn't have because it isn't even out yet.

Although, people can pull the strangest things off their sleeves, so who knows. If you are in one of those betas, consider yourself special; lets exclude PlayStation Home since there isn't anything special about it. It still looks the same. Just more people in the same boring place. (Do your duty as a tester and find some glitches though!)

If you are not on one of the betas and you are still playing your PS3 non-stop, you most likely have trophy fever. How about putting your desires of leveling up your PSN Level down for a bit, and educate yourself in how to get on these betas before its too late.

Anyways, Sony has or will be having three very important betas at the exact same time; which causes some problems since usually we aren't accepted in all of them if we are already in one of them. (PSU rules I think - not so sure.) So, lets get on with that educational speech I promised you...

Lets start with PlayStation Home. PlayStation...

Police: Man Steals PlayStation 3, Says it's to Save His Family

200°
320w ago - Now here's an interesting one, a man robbed a video game store claiming that he needed a PS3 in order to have his family released as they were being held hostage.

The suspect asked the clerk to call the police as his family needed help, but the suspect fled the scene shortly after. Oh, and he was carrying a gun...

To quote: The suspect went into the store, picked out a video game and approached the counter to check out. He pulled out a small handgun and told the store clerk that his family was being held hostage and that he needed a PlayStation 3 in order to have them released.

As he left the store, the suspect told the clerk to call the police, because his family needed help.

Police arrived shortly thereafter, but the suspect had fled the scene.

Sony about to Revolutionize Online: PlayStation Home!

50°
320w ago - Sony's Home is one of the most highly anticipated titles on the PlayStation 3, and it has the potential to revolutionise the way users interact online. However, there's no doubt it's taken a long time to come to fruition.

At the Sony E3 2008 press conference, the company reiterated Home's importance to the platform and promised that it would release an open beta in the third quarter of 2008.

Home is designed to bring together Sony's three key interests: gaming, music, and movies. The home square is the embodiment of this intention and houses a gaming arcade, a movie theatre, a music zone, as well as shops and meeting areas.

The games arcade allows you to play simple games against other people from right inside Home. These include such games as chess, pool, and bowling – all of which could be described as simple but addictive mini-games. From our preliminary look at the pool game, the physics feel good, but they won't compete with a proper stand-alone pool sim.

In the music zone, you'll be able to listen to communal music and make your character dance along to the music. A menu system allows you to choose from different dancing styles, and we were shown a particularly funny robot dance. Sony hasn't confirmed whether you'll be able to buy music here, but we expect it's a feature...
