Original Mega Man Hits Wii Virtual Console This Week

329w ago - Old-school fans of the Blue Bomber are in for a special treat come this week, as Capcom associate producer David Crislip announced that Mega Man will hit the Wii Virtual Console on August 4.

Yes, the 1987 original that started it all.

Additionally, Crislip confirmed that the retro-styled Mega Man 9 will debut in September, along with a re-release of NES classic Mega Man 2, which is often heralded by many as the finest installment in the series.

To quote: To prepare all you Mega Man fans for the release of Mega Man 9 in September, we're going to offer you the opportunity to play the game that started it all. The orginal Mega Man game returns on the Virtual Console this Monday, August 4, 2008. Yes, that's right. Brush up on your old school skills and prepare for some cool contests we have in store. We also plan to re-release Mega Man 2 in early September as well.

David Crislip, one of our talented Assitant Producers and the person in charge of Virtual Console content, prepared this blog for all you Mega Man fans and will be making regular appearances here on Unity to give you updates on titles coming to the Virtual Console.

PS3 Home BETA Update v0.96.3 Release This Week

330w ago - The update is supposed to drop this week (Thursday, July 31st). Other testers will not be invited until the closed BETA testers try it out first.

The update will not come as a patch, but rather a unique code sent to your email and redeemed via Account Management in your XMB.

HOME will then be part of the XMB rather than under the GAME section on your XMB.

Hirai: MGS4 Moved Eight Times More PS3s in Release Week

335w ago - During Sony's mid-term strategy meeting, PlayStation president Kaz Hirai pointed to Metal Gear Solid 4 as an example of the PlayStation 3's full abilities - noting that it shipped 3 million units worldwide within two weeks of launch, as Famitsu reported yesterday.

Hirai said MGS 4 is "the first title to fully utilize the capacity of dual layer Blu-ray disc.... Metal Gear Solid 4has created a world of gaming entertainment that can only be realized by PS3."

He also said MGS 4 drove console sales. "In the first week of the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, sales of PS3 in the Japanese market grew significantly, [an] eight times increase as compared to the week before, proving that Metal Gear Solid 4is a platform driver for PS3."
