PS3 Update Checker v1.2 (Firmware Auto-Downloader) Available

300w ago - Update: PS3 Update Checker v1.3 is now available with a changelog HERE.

Here is v1.2 of my PS3 Update Checker (Firmware Auto-Downloader) which mainly includes bug fixes.

Download: PS3 Update Checker v1.2 (Firmware Auto-Downloader)

1. Stop the icon animating once download complete (D'OH!)
2. Messages made bit more relevant
3. Re-enable timer after download if the option was selected ! (D'OH!)
4. Misc minor improvements

Further to my previous update re the change from seconds to minutes - CyanCaze has suggested an amendment to the timer to check randomly (at some point between eg 1 and 10 mins) rather than at a set time to prevent any possibility of $ony blocks.

300w ago - Update: [Register or Login to view links].

Further to the recent 2.70 firmware release that quickly disappeared, I've written a little app which may help out if the same thing happens again...

PS3 Update Checker v1 is a very basic tool to do just this on a windows PC with [Register or Login to view links] installed.

Download: PS3 Update Checker v1 (Firmware Auto-Downloader)

1. Make sure you have .NET framework 3.5 installed and are using a PC! (Not Mac, PS3, PSP or anything else!)
2. Run PS3UpdateChecker.exe
(Feel free to virus check etc, but you will need to allow this through any firewall otherwise you'll never get your downloads!)
3. Enter the relevant URL for the ps3-updatelist.txt file for your region.

PS3 Firmware 2.70 Released, Removed and Coming This Week!

300w ago - Earlier today, from GDC '09 a PS3 Firmware 2.70 announcement by Sony was rumored.

While we don't have an official word yet, PS3 Firmware 2.70 was confirmed present by [Register or Login to view links] (props to ssneeky10 for the link) including some of the resident PS3 Devs, albeit briefly, on Sony's servers before being removed.

Chances are either a last-minute issue with it was found, or it was mistakenly put it up for download and removed, similar to what happened for Life with PlayStation.

To quote: Just got this from a prominent PS3 developer at GDC: "PS3 Firmware 2.70 definitely this week. Developers got it yesterday."

The update was rumored to have gone live this afternoon, but was apparently withdrawn. Watch for an announcement in the next few days.

GDC '09 Rumor: PS3 Firmware 2.70 to be Announced Today?

300w ago - According to the folks over at TheSixthAxis (linked above), rumor has it Sony may make an announcement today on PS3 Firmware Update 2.70.

To quote: It's GDC 2009 over in California, and our ears are to the ground.

We've had to put up with the rumor mill grinding about Firmware 2.70 for a while now, but we've heard more recently gossip in and amongst our [Register or Login to view links] overnight hinting that Sony are about to announce Firmware 2.70 for the PS3, and there appeared to be some maintenance on the network this morning, according to MGO's in-game notices.

Whether this will come to fruition or not we'll have to wait and see, but it has been a while since the last update; so whilst we're not expecting cross-game chat it would be nice to get something out of GDC.

PS3 Dev: Sony PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.7 Hits This Month

302w ago - Psyonix Studios developer Corey David let the cat out of the bag this week regarding upcoming PlayStation 3 firmware update 2.7.0.

In discussing a bug with the studio's game, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, David let slip in a [Register or Login to view links] that the update is scheduled for release later this month, to quote:

"I've been working with Sony trying to reproduce and solve the PSN sign-out issues some of you report.

Any info you can generate will be really helpful. Sony mentioned a bug they fixed with the next system software update (2.70) that might resolve these issues, but we have to narrow it down and verify it's the same problem to be sure it's that and not something we need to fix on our end.

IIRC it will drop later this month. And contain lots of fun new fixes. I'm excited about this one, lots of new stuff.

Though, I dont think I can mention any of them just yet.

It is not uncommon for developers to recieve advance copies of hardware updates so that they can ensure compatibility with their software. After the internet caught wind of the premature announcement the post was swiftly edited to remove any reference to the 2.7.0 release,...
